A truly superb individual, Brother Derek had the raw speed to win his career debut going 4 1/2 furlongs in May as a two-year-old and the class and stamina to win a Grade 1 at 1 1/8 miles at three.
Winner of the G1 Hollywood Futurity and G2 Norfolk S. at two, in a racing year with many exceptional stars, he was weighted at 121 lbs on the Experimental Free Handicap, above Bluegrass Cat, Barbaro, and Lawyer Ron.
Brother Derek continued his brilliance at three. After scores in the G2 San Rafael and G2 Santa Catalina, Brother Derek simply dominated his rivals in the G1 Santa Anita Derby, winning in gate-to-wire fashion.
Fourth in both the G1 Kentucky Derby and G1 Preakness, Brother Derek retired with eight career Beyer Speed figures over 100.
