Canadian Frontier's NO SUCH WORD dominates the GIII Honeybee Stakes at Oaklawn!

GIII $125,000 Honeybee S.
Oaklawn Park   1 1/16M

Canadian Frontier's talented daughter No Such Word stamped herself as a major Kentucky Oaks player with a hugely impressive performance in Saturday's GIII Honeybee Stakes at Oaklawn Park.  Having to wait behind horses entering the stretch, jockey Terry Thompson decided to make his move wide, and No Such Word quickly put daylight between herself and the rest of the field once given the clear run.  The Airdrie homebred will make her next start in the GII Fantasy Stakes at Oaklawn before heading to Louisville in hopes of getting the Cindy and Larry Jones training team another win in the historic GI Kentucky Oaks!

Canadian Frontier now has 5 stakes winners from just 53 starters, trailing only Tapit on the 3rd Crop Sire List for percentage of stakes winners to starters, and ranking ahead of such stallions as Medaglia D'oro, Candy Ride, Speightstown and Birdstone.

MESSAGE CONVEYED: INDIAN CHARLIE'S CONVEYANCE TAKES THE GIII $250,000 SOUTHWEST STAKES!

GIII $250,000 Southwest S
Oaklawn Park   1m

In his first conventioanl dirt start after a flawless record on the California synthetics that included an effortless win in the G3 San Rafael S, Conveyance cemented his spot on the Kentucky Derby short list with an impressive victory over a talented Southwest S. field.  Having to be hussled to the lead as a result of his outside post, Conveyance flew through an opening first quarter in 22 and change, but still had enough in the tank to hold off GI winner Dublin at the wire.  The undefeated son of Indian Charlie, trained by Bob Baffert for Zabeel racing, could make his next start in the GI Wood Memorial, though with his ability to perform brilliantly on both surfaces, he is certainly a horse with a lot of options.

Congratulations to all the connections of this brilliantly talented GI Kentucky Derby prospect!

GIII Kenny Noe Jr. H.
Calder  7F

Proud Citizen's talented son Motovato got his much deserved initial graded stakes victory in Saturday's GIII Kenny Noe Jr. Handicap at Calder.  Despite steadying in the stretch and having to wait for racing room before swinging wide, Motovato was along in time to win going away in what was a very impressive effort.  Under the expert care of trainer Marty Wolfsen, Motovato has every chance to be a major force in the south Florida Handicap Division this winter and continues Proud Citizen's major momentum into the new year.

Congratulations to owners Edmund A. Gann and Michel Zerolo, as well as breeders Elizabeth L. Jones and Brownell Alexander, and to trainer Marty Wolfsen!

$300,000 GI Norfolk S.
Oak Tree

Include's talented 2-year-old son Pulsion became his sire's 6th Grade 1 horse in running a very impressive 2nd in Sunday's G1 Norfolk Stakes at Oak Tree.  Despite encountering traffic issues, Pulsion was full of run at the end of the race to outfinish all comers with the exception of the stakes tested Lookin at Lucky.  Pulsion, just off an impressive maiden win for Patrick Biancone has demonstrated he belongs with the top horses of his generation and looks like he could prove very formidable in next months G1 Breeder's Cup Juvenile.  Stay Tuned!

Yankee Gentleman Colt 3rd:

Yankee Gentleman's stakes winning son Gallant Gent also ran a bang up race, finishing just behind Pulsion to take 3rd in the G1 event.  With 11 two-year-old winners already this year, Yankee Gentleman continues his hot streak with his 2009 juveniles!

Vision Stable's talentented Harlan's Holiday colt Three Day Rush arrived on the U.S 2-year-old scene with a game win in Saturday's $200,000 NATC Futurity at Monmouth Park.  Confronted by 3-5 race favorite Enumerate, himself an accomplished runner who had been just nosed out in the G2 Sanford Stakes, at the head of the stretch, Three Day Rush dug in gameley to register a decisive win.  It was another 4 lengths back to the 3rd place finisher.
Just 1 of 11 impressive 2-year-old winners for Harlan's Holiday this year, a group that includes graded stakes winner Necesary Evil in addition to Three Day Rush, his juvenile earnings have already surpassed $500,000 this year and lay a strong foundation for a standout 2010!

LAVA MAN WORKING FOR A COMEBACK

The Daily Racing Reports that Lava Man's retirement from racing lasted all of one year.

The 8-year-old gelding, who dominated the California handicap division during most of two years, earning $5.2 million and winning seven Grades 1's, worked three furlongs Wednesday morning at Hollywood Park and will aim for a racing comeback.

Owners Steve Kenly and Jason Wood, and trainer Doug O'Neill, confirmed tentative comeback plans for Lava Man after the snappy three-furlong work in 36 seconds, fastest of 24 works at the distance.

Lava Man, who retired last fall due to declining form, returned to the track two weeks ago in improved physical condition following months of stem-cell therapy administered by Dr. Doug Herthel of Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center.

SILVER TAKES THE GOLD: HARLAN'S HOLIDAY'S SILVER REUNION THE NEWEST STAR IN THE 3-YEAR-OLD TURF FILLY DIVISION

$70,000 Riskaverse S
Saratoga  1m (T)

Having already shown considerable promise on the dirt and synthetic tracks, Silver Reunion finally made it to the grass on Thursday, and the result could not have been more impressive.  Having been slated to try the grass on two prior occasions only to have the races rained onto the main track, Silver Reunion, who is out of the G2 winning turfer Silver Comic (by Silver Hawk), stamped herself as one of the most exciting three-year-old turf fillies in the country with a dominating 3 1/2 length score that was never in doubt.  Even more impressive was the fact that she finished the mile race in 1:34 flat, getting her final quarter in a nearly unheard of 21 4/5 despite setting all the race's fractions.  The remarkable effort was rewarded with a 101 Beyer Speed Figure, and has Silver Reunion now being pointed to major graded turf stakes by trainer Graham Motion.

Silver Reunion once again demonstrates both the tremendous ability and versatility that Harlan's Holdiday is passing onto his runners.  With his 1st crop just 4-year-olds, he already has a G1 winning synthetic horse in Into Mischief as well as a Kentucky Derby and Belmont stakes placed colt Denis of Cork on the dirt...just a few of his stallion crop leading 11 stakes winners.

Find Harlan's Holiday's next superstar at the Keeneland September Sales, and be sure to come to the Airdrie consignment to see Silver Reunion's beauiful half sister, selling as hip #858!

AIRDRIE STALLIONS OFF TO A HOT START THIS SALES SEASON

2009 is looking like another strong commercial year for the Airdrie Stallions.  Even before the marathon Keeneland September sale gets underway September 14th, the Airdrie stallions have been represented well despite their limited numbers.  Indian Charlie, who has established himself as one of the game's elite stallions, has already been represented by $500,000 and $380,000 yearlings.  Harlan's Holiday, already off to a great start with his 2009 juveniles was represented by a $280,000 July yearling, while Grade 1 producers Proud Citizen and Include both had fillies sell for $150,000 at the same sale.  With exceptional individuals slated to sell this September, expect the Airdrie stallions to continue to shine in the showring!

NOT NECESARILY A BOY'S GAME: HARLAN'S HOLIDAY'S DAUGHTER NECESARY EVIL DOMINATES THE COLTS IN THE GIII HOLLYWOOD PREVUE STAKES

Following a dominant performance in her debut that merited her a TDN Rising Star, owners Glencrest and Dapple Farms and trainer Doug O'Neill felt they had a filly special enough to take on the boys- a decision that was validated nearly the second the starting gate opened on Sunday when Necesary Evil grabbed the lead and never once looked threatened in the GIII Hollywood Prevue.  The easiest of three length winners, Necesary Evil stopped the clock in 1:09 and change for the 6 furlongs and quickly staked her claim as California's most exciting 2-year-old in training.  Congratulations to all the connections of this brilliant young filly!

MOTOVATO'S DOMINANT STAKES WIN LENGTHENS PROUD CITIZEN'S LEAD AS THE NATION'S #1 THIRD CROP SIRE

Primal Stakes (L)
Calder Racecourse  1 1/8m

Staking his claim as Florida's top older horse in training, the Marty Wolfson trained Motovato was sparkling in his most recent effort, a thoroughly dominant 5 3/4 length win in Saturday's Primal Stakes at Calder.  Bet down to 2-5 despite the presence of seasoned stakes performers, Motovato ended all suspense early with an authoritative move in the turn and only lengthened his advantage through the stretch.  Now being pointed to some of the nation's top graded stakes for older horses, Motovato is poised to take his place as a major player on the national older horses scene.  Motovato's sire, Proud Citizen, has once again added to his lead as the Nation's #1 ranked 3rd crop sire, now with more than $7.4 million in earnings.

Congratulations to all Motovato's connections, owners Edmund Gann and Michel Zerolo, breeders Elizabeth Jones and Brownell Alexander and trainer Marty Wolfson!

WICKEDLY FAST: Harlan's Holiday's 2-Year-old Necessary Evil breathtaking in her record-setting debut!

$46,000 Msw Hollywood Park
Two-year-old fillies   5F

It didn't take long for the pre-race buzz to begin after entries were drawn for Sunday's 4th race.  While the summer two-year-old races always attract attention in southern California, Sunday's 4th promised even more intrigue thanks to the presence of the $1.7 million November sales grad Mi Sueno, a Pulpit filly out of the talented Grade I winner Madcape Escapade and the very first starter sired by the brilliant champion Ghostzapper.  However, from the break of the gate to the wire, it was the Harlan's Holiday filly Necessary Evil that stole the show.  Breaking on top, the talented Glencrest color-bearer never looked to be in any danger as she sped to the lead and only increased her magin through the stretch for an effortless 3 and 3/4 length victory.  Despite the absolute ease with which she won, her final time was good for a new Hollywood Park track record and a remarkable 92 Beyer Speed Figure, the 2nd highest (and just 1 point behind the year's topper) figure for any two-year-old to race in the United States this year.

Trained by Doug O'Neill for owners Glencrest and Dapple Stables, this Harlan's Holiday filly looks to be a major player on the two-year-old stakes scene this year.  Congratulations to all her excited connections!

YANKEE GENTLEMAN CONTINUES HOT WEEK WITH A 2-YEAR-OLD TRACK RECORD SETTER!

Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer's first time 2-year-old starter Washington Bridge made her first call to the post an historic one when breaking the Golden Gate track record in her racing debut.  In control from the start, the Yankee Gentleman filly lengthened her lead with every stride in winning by an effortless 5 lengths.  She is now being pointed to the major west coast 2-year-old stakes and she gives Yankee Gentleman his 2nd exceptionally impressive juvenile winner of the last week, following on the heels of Tidal Pool's eye-opening maiden win at Churchill Downs for trainer D. Wayne Lukas.

Yankee Gentleman's 2009 2-year-old crop is his biggest to hit the ractrack so far, and, as you can see, he's already getting big time results!

INCLUDE'S PIOUS ASHLEY TAKES THE $100,000 VALID EXPECTATIONS STAKES; INDIAN CHARLIE CONTINUES HIS UNBELIEVABLE ROLL WITH ANOTHER MONSTEROUS WEEKEND!

$100,000 Valid Expectations S
Lone Star Park  6f

Long held in high regard, Include's Pious Ashley announced her arrival on the older filly and mare sprinting scene with a dynamic victory in Monday's $100,000 Valid Expectations Stakes at Lone Star.  Stopping the clock in a sizzling 1:09 2/5, Pious Ashley was getting away from the talented field at the wire as her final margin of victory was just under 2 lengths.  Trained by Marty Wolfson, this talented daughter of Include looks to have graded stakes in her future as she continues to add to Include's impressive 2009 in pushing his earnings to nearly $1.5 million in this still early year.

Congratulations to owner Farnsworth Stables and trainer Marty Wolfson and best of luck with her upcoming campaign!

Indian Charlie Continues Unbelievable Roll

Seemingly unsatisfied with the unbelievable honor of being represented by an Eclipse champion each of the last 3 years, Indian Charlie continued to build on his legacy this weekend with two big time stakes winners.

His daughter, Indian Way, stamped herself as a division leader for sprinting fillies and mares with her record breaking performance in the $250,000 My Juliet Stakes at Philadelphia Park.  Placed in last year's Grade I Prioress Stakes, she has been nothing short of brilliant in her 2009 campaign, as this win came on the heels of two effortless allowance scores.  Her time in the 6 furlong My Juliet was a jaw-dropping 1:07 3/5, good for a new track record at Philly Park, and her Brisnet figure of 114 towered over all other results from the weekend's racing- a stat made even more impressive by the fact that it trumped even the great Zenyatta's brilliant performace on Saturday.  The sky truly seems the limit for this exceptionally talented filly.

But Indian Way was not Indian Charlie's only star this weekend, as Charlie's Moment ran away with a 2 length score in Hollywood Park's GIII Lazero Barrera Stakes.  Always an important race in deciding California's top 3-year-old colt for the second half of the season, Charlie's Moment dictated the pace throughout and won full of run despite a 6f fraction of 1:08 and change.

Congratulations to all the connections of these two very talented Indian Charlie's!

PROUD CITIZEN'S SIZZLING WEEK HIGHLIGHTED BY A FUTURE STAR ON THE EUROPEAN RACING SCENE!

The Nation's #1 3rd Crop Sire by lifetime earnings, Proud Citizen's progeny showcased this week why he is one of the highest regarded young stallions in both the U.S and Europe.

Represented by no less than 5 impressive winners in a 4 day period, Proud Citizen's strong week was highlighted by the upstart No Hubris, who was thoroughly dominant in taking his 2-year-old debut at England's York Racecourse- a race so impressive he was immediately tabbed a TDN Rising Star and made a favorite for the upcoming GII Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.  Trained by Paul Cole, No Hubris looks to build on Proud Citizen's success in Europe, where he was represented by the classic colt River Proud last season.

On top of this, Proud Citizen was also represented by the talented Larry Jones trainee It Happened Again, who easily defeated older horses in a top class allowance field, as well as the Mark Hennig trainee Dattt's Lady Di, who was dominant in her maiden breaking performance at Belmont Park.  One Proud Lady, a first time starter in a Msw at Calder won off by 8 lengths in a debut that signaled she has every right to be a top class filly this season as well.

Congratulations to all the connections of these exciting winners and thank you to all the breeders who continue to help Proud Citizen ascend the sire lists!

Slew City Slew's talented son Soul City Slew furthered his sire's reputation as the consumate racehorse stallion with a going away win in Saturday's GII Potrero Grande S. at Santa Anita.  Blazing the six and a half furlongs in 1:14 3/5, the Jack Carava trainee served notice that he will be a major player in the west coast's older sprint division this year.  With over $40 million in progeny earnings and more than a $60,000 average earnings per starter record, Slew City Slew continues to make the argument that he could very well be the best value in the stud book.

A PROUD NIGHT FOR AIRDRIE STUD- TWO ECLIPSE WINNERS SIRED BY AIRDRIE STALLIONS

On a truly special night for Airdrie Stud, two Airdrie sired horses took home the sports' greatest honors when crowned Eclipse champions.  Indian Blessing, the brilliant daughter of Indian Charlie started Airdrie's celebration when named America's champion sprint filly- her second lifetime Eclipse Award after garnering champion juvenile filly last year.  Airdrie would like to congratulate her well deserving connections, the Earnhardt family and trainer Bob Baffert.
Not long thereafter, Airdrie received the thrill of a lifetime when our homebred filly, Proud Spell, was named America's champion 3-year-old filly of 2008.  Winner of this year's GI Kentucky Oaks and the GI Alabama Stakes, the daughter of Proud Citizen won the award despite the presence of some truly special fillies in the 3-year-old ranks this year, led by Indian Blessing, Music Note and the brilliant Eight Belles.  Airdrie would like to congratulate all the hard working individuals that make up our Airdrie team, and send our deepest appreciation to the entire Larry Jones racing team- Larry, Cindi, Corey, Michael and all those who have been so instrumental in our fily's career.  We would also like to thank jockey Gabriel Saez for his brilliant work atop our filly as the only rider to ever ride Proud Spell in the afternoon.  Thank you as well to all the breeders who have contributed to the overwhelming success of the Airdrie stallions...we are eternally grateful.

YANKEE GENTLEMAN's southern cooking...

Undefeated filly HELLO AGAIN became YANKEE GENTLEMAN'S 5TH STAKES WINNER and  his 3rd stakes horse already in 2009.

$50,000 Dixie Belle Stakes
6 furlongs, Oaklawn Park

HELLO AGAIN rallied to win her debut facing Illinois breds at Hawthorne just prior to Thanksgiving, before capturing a first level allowance for state-breds at the same track on Jan 2nd.  Making her third straight start at 6 furlongs she rode the caboose in the seven horse field through a half in :46 flat, moving out wide for the stretch drive she launched a resolute rally down the center of the track and got up by a half at the wire.

Last week SOUTHERN YANKEE took the $50,000 Genesis Stakes at Delta Downs just days after GOLDEN YANK was beaten by a nose in the Grade 3 Golonel Bradley S at Fair Grounds

IT HAPPENED AGAIN earned his diploma at Philly Park in October, then disappointed as the lukewarm 3-1 favorite in the Dec 20th Sugar Bowl S. at Fair Grounds.  Backed as the third choice here, he stayed close to the leaders in third, took over in the stretch and drew clear late demonstrating an impressive late kick to win by 2 at the wire.

STAKES WINNER #3: LOCH DUBH CONTINUES FRIENDS LAKE'S STELLAR START AT STUD

$50,000 Turfway Prevue S.
6F   1:13 3/5

A winner of his last two starts entering his stakes debut, Friends Lake's 3yo son Loch Dubh continued his winning ways with an authoritative win in the Turfway Prevue Stakes at Turfway Park Saturday.  Always within striking distance of the leaders, Loch Dubh circled wide entering the stretch and drew clear in impreessive fashion through the stretch.  The colt becomes the third stakes winner from Friends Lake's first crop, a group that includes the GIII Bashford Manor Stakes winner Screen Your Friend and West Point Stables's undefeated stakes winner Merus Miami.  At his best as a GI Derby winner at 3 and from the AP Indy sire line that generally is at its best with maturity and added distance, Friends Lake's offspring have excited breeders through both their marketability and precociousness...and just wait till they get to run long!

Congratulations to owner Texas Toyco LLC, breeder The Answer LLC and trainer Jeff Talley on this exciting 3yo colt!

POP THE CHAMPAGNE: INDIAN CHARLIE'S ZADA BELLE ROMPS IN THE INTERBOROUGH S. ON NEW YEARS DAY

$65,000 Interborough S
Aqueduct  6f

Indian Charlie's ultra-talented daughter Zada Belle set the tone for her 2009 campaign with a thoroughly dominant performance in the $65,000 Interborough S at Aqueduct on New Years Day.  Sent off the heavy race favorite, Zada Belle rewarded her backers with an easy 4 1/4 length victory that was never in question.  Racing in the maroon silks of the Darley Stable, Zada Belle is being pointed for graded company and looks to have a strong opportunity to take her place as one of the nation's fastest older mares.  Coming off a 2008 season that helped cement him as one of the nation's hottest stallions, Indian Charlie continues his remarkable run to the top of the stallion ranks.
Congratulations to all the connections of this very talented mare!

A NEW FRONTIER: TWO DOMINANT FIRST-CROP JUVENILE WINNERS FOR CANADIAN FRONTIER AT THE FAIR GROUNDS

Fair Grounds
$44,000 Allowance   6F

An impressive maiden winner at Delaware Park for trainer Larry Jones this summer, Canadian Frontier's 2yo daughter On the Menu was making her return to racing in a tough $44,000 Allowance at Fair Grounds.  Always close to the pace, On the Menu never left a doubt in drawing away to an exceptionally impressive, 7 1/4 length win over the highly regarded Steve Asmussen trainee Heart Ashley.  Just as impressive was the sensational 93 Beyer Speed Figure with which her effort was rewarded.  Set to make her next start in stakes company, On The Menu looks a filly with a very bright future and is poised to continue her sire's exciting start to his stud career.

Not to be overlooked on the same Fair Grounds' card was the dominant performance of another Canadian Frontier, Proteus.  Facing a tough group of 2yos in a $42,000 Msw, Proteus dominated the competition by pulling away to a facile 5 1/4 length win in the 5 1/2F turf test.  Joining the impressive Banker's Choice, who took a featured turf allowance at Keeneland in October as Canadian Frontier's which have excelled over the grass, Proteus demonstrates both the precocity and versatility that Canadian Frontier is passing on to his offspring.

Congratulations to all the connections of these very exciting 2-year-olds!

EARLY DELIVERY: FRIENDS LAKE CONTINUES HIS RED HOT START AT STUD WITH A NEW UNDEFEATED STAKES WINNER.

$75,000 Gold Rush Stakes
Golden Gate  1m

Racing in the colors of the seemingly omnipresent West Point Stables, Friends Lakes' talented son Merus Miami continued his sire's hot streak in taking the $75,000 Gold Rush Stakes on Saturday.  As would be expected of a son of the great AP Indy, Friends Lakes' progeny are already showing an affinity for two turns and Merus Miami demonstrated that the longer he goes, the better he'll be.  Inhaling the front runners in a desicive last-to-first move, Merus Miami won off as much the best and stamped himself as a leading contender for next month's California Derby.  Already the sire of 16 individual two-year-old winners, including Merus Miami and the Churchill Downs graded stakes winner Screen Your Friend, Friends Lake is quickly demonstrating to breeders that he has every chance to be a truly top sire for years to come.

An Airdrie bred, Airdrie would like to congratulate the connections of Merus Miami, Terry Finley's West Point Stables and bloodstock advisor Buzz Chace and trainer O.J Jauregui!

THE DERBY SIRE: 1 YEAR...4 DERBY WINS FOR STALLION YANKEE GENTLEMAN

$150,000 Zia Park Derby
Zia Park  1 1/16m

Golden Yank, fresh off an easy win in the $350,000 Oklahoma Derby, was made the 1-2 choice to add another derby win to his resume when he lined up for Saturday's $150,000 Zia Park Derby.  Confidently handled throughout by jockey Jamie Theriot, Golden Yank collared the leaders at the head of the stretch and drew off to an effortless 6 3/4 length win.  Adding to Yankee Gentleman's big day was Numismatist, who rallied to be third behind his paternal half-brother.  The win marked the 4th Derby win for a son of Yankee Gentleman this year, with Golden Yank's two derby victories, Yankee Bravo's California Derby and So So's West Virgina Sprint Derby.  A top-10 Second Crop sire and ranked ahead of such succesfull stallions as Empire Maker, Mineshaft and Posse, Yankee Gentleman continues to represent one of the best values at stud.

Congratulations to owner/breeder Millard R. Seldin, jockey Jamie Theriot and trainer Gary Thomas!

WINNER #14 FOR FRIENDS LAKE ON THANKSGIVING DAY.

$41,000 Maiden Special Weight
Aqueduct, 7 furlongs

Freedom Trail, Winner #14 for freshman sire FRIENDS LAKE, broke her maiden with a wire to wire run against a tough field at Aqueduct.  Third in her first start over this track in October, for trainer Rick Violette, the filly went the first quarter in :22.3 and looked very comfortable holding position on the rail.  Joined by foes at the eighth pole she found an extra gear late and pulled away to be 1 1/4 clear at the wire.
Lifetime 2-1-0-1, $28,700.

LUCKY NUMBER 13: FRIENDS LAKE'S 4 BIG WINNERS IN 5 DAYS CONTINUE HIS IMPRESSIVE FRESHMAN RUN

$43,000 Maiden Special Weight
Aqueduct,  5 1/2 furlongs

Although certainly bred to be better around two turns, the Friends Lake 2yos continued on their impressive course when the first-year AP Indy stallion was represented by three quality winners in a five day period.  Led by Kiaran McLaughlin's dead game debut winner Monk's Creek, who outdueled the race favorite down the stretch to take a $43,000 MSW in impressive fashion, Friends Lake 2yos also took maidens at Churchill Downs and Delaware Park for top conditioners Dale Romans, Eddie Kenneally and Larry Jones respectively.  A $270,000 Barretts 2yo purchase for Mr. William Warren, Monks Creek embodies both Friends Lake's quality on the racetrack as well as his prowess in the sales arena, where his first crop 2yos in training averaged over $160,000 in 2008.  Now with 13 2yo winners from his first crop, including the GIII Bashford Manor winner Screen Your Friend, Friends Lake continues to gather momentum with a freshman crop that should only get better as the distances increase!

LENDING A HAND: AIRDRIE LOWERS STUD FEES ON ALL STALLIONS STANDING BELOW $25,000 FOR 2009

In response to the thoroughbred market's recent downturn and the nation's difficult economic climate, Airdrie Stud is lowering stud fees for all stallions that stood for below $25,000 in 2008, regardless of their popularity or prospective book size.  Airdrie's Brereton Jones believes it is this area of the market that is in most need of assistance, “We at Airdrie Stud recognize the difficulty of challenging financial markets.  We particularly recognize the difficulty for those who primarily breed to stallions below the $25,000 level. Therefore, we have lowered our stud fees on all of our stallions in this group regardless of their popularity.”  As always, Airdrie invites all breeders to call our office at (859) 873-7270 or email us through this website with any and all questions you may have for the upcoming breeding season.

GETTING BACK INTO MISCHIEF: HARLAN'S HOLIDAY COLT DOMINATES ON BREEDER'S CUP DAY!

$100,000 Damascus S.
Santa Anita Park  7f

On racing's showcase day, Harlan's Holiday's Into Mischief delivered a performance truly befitting the occasion.  Making his first start since being prematurely taken off the Kentucky Derby trail due to a foot issue, the 2007 GI Hollywood Futurity winner resurfaced on Breeder's Cup day in dazzling fashion; securing his place as one of the nation's top 3-year-old colts.  While his time for the 7-furlongs was a blistering 1:20 1/5, it was the effortless manor in which he pulled away from a full field that included GI winner Geogie Boy that made it such an impressive demonstration.  The early favorite for the season ending GI Malibu Stakes at Hollywood Park, Into Mischief continues Harlan's Holiday's tremendous start at stud, as his first crop 3-year-olds have amassed more than $4 million in earnings.

Congratulations and best of luck to owner B. Wayne Hughes and trainer Richard Mandella with this exciting 3-year-old colt!

Remington Park 1 1/8m

Despite the presence of graded stakes star Tiz Now Tiz Then, Yankee Gentleman's 3-year-old colt Golden Yank was a largely unthreatened winner of Saturday's $350,000 Oklahoma Derby.  A multiple stakes winning juvenile, Golden Yank has demonstrated great versatily in his sophomore campaign as, in addition to his impressive Derby win, he was second in Churchill Downs's top class turf feature, the GII Jefferson Cup Stakes.  With earnings now approaching $600,000, Golden Yank continues Yankee Gentleman's rock solid beginning to his stud career and is 1 of 10 First Crop stakes horses for the brilliant son of Storm Cat.

INDIAN CHARLIE'S DAUGHTER INDYANNE CAPTURES THE GR.3 THOROUGHBRED CLUB OF AMERICA S. AT KEENELAND.

With a little better racing luck, Indian Charlie’s speedy daughter Indyanne would still be unbeaten following her scintillating victory over older mares in the GIII Thoroughbred Club of America S. at Keeneland. Coming off an unlucky 2nd place finish in the GIII Victory Ride S at Saratoga, where she broke slowly before rushing up into fast fractions, Indyanne left little doubt Saturday that she is indeed one of the fastest 3-year-old fillies in training.

On Saturday, Indyanne broke alertly and went right to the lead under new jockey Robby Albarado, setting fractions of :21.77 and :44.54 through the half mile. She was challenged through the stretch by last year’s winner of the Grade 3 Thoroughbred Club of America S., but dug in tenaciously to fend her off and stop the clock in a scintillating 1:08 and change.

The win secured her spot in the $1,000,000 Sentient Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Sprint; promising a much anticipated clash with Indian Charlie’s champion daughter Indian Blessing.

Congratulations to all the connections of this outstanding filly and best of luck with her upcoming campaign.

LAVA MAN RETIRES TO "OLD FRIENDS".

Lava Man, the only horse to sweep the Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I), Hollywood Gold Cup (gr. I) and Pacific Classic (gr. I) in the same year, has been retired.

Lava Man won grade I races on dirt, turf and synthetic surfaces and joined Native Diver as the only three-time winner of the Hollywood Gold Cup. In all, he won seven grade I races.

Steve Kenly of STD Racing Stable, co-owner of Lava Man, said the decision was made following initial examinations of the horse at Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center in Los Olivos, Calif., east of Santa Barbara.

Lava Man retires with 17 wins in 46 starts for total earnings of $5, 268,706. That puts him third among California-breds, behind only Tiznow, the nation's Horse of the Year in 2000, and Best Pal.

A 7-year-old California-bred son of SLEW CITY SLEW out of
Li’l Ms. Leonard, by Nostalgia’s Star, Lava Man is the most lucrative claim in racing history. Jason Wood and the STD Racing Stable of Steve, Dave, and Tracy Kenly claimed Lava Man for $50,000 at Del Mar in 2004. Since then, Lava Man has earned $5,180,678, a record amount for a horse to win after being claimed.

“I think we realized pretty quickly into it how we were with a special horse,” said Doug O’Neill, who has conditioned Lava Man for the Kenlys and Wood.

On Sept 4th a jubilant Michael Blowen announced Thursday that Lava Man, one of the great geldings of all time, is scheduled to arrive at Old Friends on Sept. 16, where he will live out the rest of his days.

Old Friends, located at 94-acre Dream Chase Farm near Georgetown, Ky., was founded by Blowen in 2002 as a retirement and rescue facility for retired Thoroughbreds. It has grown steadily and now hosts two to five tours daily for the public.

ANOTHER RISING STAR: FRIENDS LAKE'S OCONEE GOLD DOMINATES AT DELAWARE PARK!

Delaware Park  1m
MSW   2-year-old colts

Top trainer Larry Jones looks to have added another weapon to his impressive 2008 arsenal with the two-turn unveilining of his Friends Lake 2-year-old colt Oconee Gold; a runaway 6-length winner at Delaware Park despite an horiffic start.  Left in the gate and forced wide into the first turn, Oconee Gold made up ground with a decisive middle move and kept plenty in the tank to pull away through the stretch by a half dozen lengths.  Following on the heels of Friends Lake's graded stakes winning juvenile Screen Your Friend, Oconee Gold continues Friends Lake's impressive beginning to his stud career.
Congratulations to owner Cottonwood Stables, trainer Larry Jones and his entire team, and jockey Gabriel Saez.

THE CHEF'S SPECIAL: CANADIAN FRONTIER'S ON THE MENU SHINES IN FIVE-STAR DEBUT!

$41,000 Delaware Park MSW
Two-year-olds     6F

No secret to the Delaware Park punters who sent her off the even money favorite despite it being just her first start, Canadian Frontier's On The Menu did not disappoint her backers in a convincing win against a top class group of 2-year-old fillies.  Trained and ridden by the white-hot trainer-jockey combination of Larry Jones and Gabriel Saez, On The Menu was thoroughly professional in victory as she waited patiently behind horses down the backstretch before launching her winning rally going into the turn.  Being pointed toward stakes company for her next start, On The Menu capped a strong week for her sire Canadian Frontier who also sired a $370,000 Deauville yearling as well as an on the board finisher in the $100,000 Ms. Shenandoah Stakes over the weekend.

A promising week for a VERY promising young sire!

THE HEART OF A CHAMPION: PROUD CITIZEN'S PROUD SPELL REFUSES TO LOSE, TAKES THE G1 ALABAMA STAKES

Grade I, $600,000 Alabama Stakes
1 1/4m   Saratoga

In a race that will be long remembered by all who witnessed it, Proud Spell outgamed the multiple Grade I winner Music Note to the wire in an epic renewel of the historic GI Alabama Stakes at Saratoga.  After putting away Godolphin's Little Belle, herself a GI winner, in upper stretch, Proud Spell braced for the challenge of the second Godolphin color-bearer Music Note, who was coming off a resounding 11 length win in the GI CCA Oaks, and simply outgutted that filly to the wire.  The stretch run essentially marked a match race between the two fillies nearly universally credited as the top 3-year-old fillies in the country, and the result has firmly established Proud Spell as this nation's top sophomore filly in training.  The win further validates sire Proud Citizen's place as one of the world's hottest young stallions, and helped further distance himself from his sophomore sire crop rivals who now stand more than $500,000 behind him on the second crop sire list.
A homebred for Airdrie Stud, the farm would like to send our deepest gratitude to trainer Larry Jones and his entire team as well as to jockey Gabriel Saez for giving us the memories of a lifetime with this very special filly.

INDIAN CHARLIE'S ZADA BELLE DOMINATES SARTOGA STAKES COMPANY!

$83,400 Bennington Stakes
Saratoga    6f

Tapped as a horse to watch following her scintillating 2-year-old debut in 2006, Indian Charlie's talented daughter Zada Belle has emerged from her subsequent trip to Dubai to become one of the most exciting older sprint fillies in training.  Sent off the favorite to record her first stakes victory, Zada Belle left no doubters with a decisive move at the head of the stretch en route to a thoroughly dominant 5-length victory.  The Godolphin color-barer, already graded placed at this Saratoga meet in the GIII Honorable Miss Stakes, can now turn her attention to even larger prizes as she continues her ascension toward the top of the sprinting filly ranks.

Congratulations to the entire Godolphin team on this extremely talented filly!

Four stakes wins for Hartigan - her third for 2008!

Breaking from the 4 post the daughter of Include was settled at the rear of the field through moderate fractions. Rallying 4 wide into the stretch she produced a powerful finish only to be bumped a number of times by stable mate Pissaro before and after the furlong marker. Not to be deterred Hartigan dug in gamely to just miss at the wire. Following a stewards inquiry the daughter of Include was justifiably placed first. This was the third stakes win this year alone for Robert Meyerhoff‘s homebred daughter of Include. Congratulations to all the connections of this highly talented filly!

Proud Citizen's RIVER PROUD wins impressively at Glorious Goodwood.

Behaving impeccably at the start River Proud was in the stalls for some time. Breaking smartly the son of Proud Citizen was soon making the pace, and it was obvious two furlongs from home that he was in a league of his own as he had not been asked while the others were all being pushed along to keep up. Accelerating smoothly with little urging through the last two furlong’s he scored by an impressive margin. Plans now call for this top class three old to head to France for the G2 Prix Guillaume d’Ornano at Deauville on Aug. 23. Congratulations to all the connections of this top class colt and good luck with his upcoming campaign.

Indian Charlie's Champion INDIAN BLESSING blows them away in the Gr.1 Test S. at Saratoga.

Indian Blessing proved herself the premier sprinter in the three old sprint divisions, with this awesome display in the historic Gr.1 Test S. at Saratoga.  The daughter of Indian Charlie has shown a new dimension to compliment her breathtaking speed in her last two starts. In the July 5th Gr.1 Prioress S. at Belmont, Indian Blessing came from just off the pace to gallop home an easy 5 Ľ length winner. She made it two Grade 1 victories in a row yesterday. Breaking from post 6 she relaxed easily two back from pace setter Palanka City down the backside, the champ soon took over at the head of the stretch with little urging from John Velazquez and powered away from the field under a hand ride to score by a widening 7 lengths. After the race trainer Bob Baffert said. “After that last race, we found a new dimension where she can relax, we were afraid to do it at first as we thought it might prove disastrous, but she has really matured. It’s fun to be in this situation.”

Congratulations to all the connections of this champion filly and best of luck with the upcoming campaign.

Multiple Grade 1 winner BROTHER DEREK to begin his stud career at Airdrie in 2009.

GI Santa Anita Derby Winner BROTHER DEREK retired to Airdrie Stud.

Multiple Grade I winner Brother Derek has been retired from racing and will take up stallion duties at Mr. and Mrs. Brereton C. Jones’ Airdrie Stud in Midway, Kentucky.  The morning line favorite for the 2006 Kentucky Derby, Brother Derek scored Grade I victories at both 2 and 3, taking the GI Hollywood Futurity as a juvenile before capturing the GI Santa Anita Derby the following April.  Brother Derek also won the Grade II Norfolk Stakes at 2 as well as the Grade II San Rafael Stakes and the Grade II Santa Catalina Stakes during a career that earned more than $1.6 million for owner Cecil Peacock and trainer Dan Hendricks.

Bred by Mrs. Mary Caldwell, Brother Derek is a son of leading California sire Benchmark out of the multiple graded stakes producer Miss Soft Sell.  Brother Derek was a $150,000 yearling purchase by John Brocklebank and a $275,000 Barretts 2-year-old graduate when he breezed a Ľ mile in :20 4/5.

Said Airdrie’s Bret Jones, “Our single most important criteria for selecting our stallions is brilliance, and Brother Derek had brilliance in spades.  To be able to come through a 2-year-old sale after going :20 4/5, break his maiden that May going 4 ˝ furlongs, win a Grade I at the end of his two-year-old year and then train on to dominate the GI Santa Anita Derby going a mile and an eighth shows the brilliance, versatility and true toughness that we believe will ultimately lead to his great success at stud.  He’s also an outstanding individual that the commercial breeder can really get excited about.  We are extremely appreciative of Mr. Peacock for letting us stand the horse that has brought him so many wonderful moments.”

A stud fee for Brother Derek has not yet been announced.

Stormin Normandy goes wire to wire in the High Rock Spring S. at Saratoga!

Stormin Normandy made it two stakes wins in a row at the spa yesterday.

The son of Stormin Fever broke on the lead and carved out fast early splits of :22.1, :45.2 and :57.3. Already looking much the best turning for home he extended his three length lead through the stretch to over eight lengths at the wire in a hand ride from Cornelio Velasquez. Congratulatios to all his connection and best of luck with the upcoming campaign of this highly talanted colt!

Stormin Fever has being enjoying a stellar season in 2008, his daughter Whirlie Bertie in her first try outside of allowance company ran a strong 3rd in the Gr.3 Monmouth Oaks on 8-9-08 and looks like breaking through in stakes company in the near future. On the same day the talented Brilliant Son was also 3rd at the Spa in the $100,000 James Marvin S. for owner Jim Barry. PROUD SPELL DOES IT AGAIN: PROUD CITIZEN THE NATION'S #1 SOPHOMORE SIRE

$500,000 GII Delaware Oaks
Delaware Park   1 1/16m

Another Oaks, another convincing victory for Proud Spell, the nation's leading 3-year-old filly in training. Winning her third Oaks of the season following victories in the GII Fair Grounds Oaks and GI Kentucky Oaks, Proud Spell demonstrated her trademark determination through the lane to take the rich contest by a measured length.  Proud Spell will now turn her attention to the historic GI Alabama Stakes at Saratoga, to be run on August 16th.  Her victory helped her sire Proud Citizen regain his lead as the leading sophomore sire in the nation, overtaking fellow Airdrie resident Harlan's Holiday and pushing his seasonal earnings to over $2 million.

Airdrie remains eternally grateful for the masterful job trainer Larry Jones and jockey Gabriel Saez have done with this great filly as she continues her championship run!

While A.P. Indy's name has long been a fixture in the conversation of the world's greatest stallions, it is also generally associated with later developing runners that tend to be at their best with maturity and added distance.  However, A.P. Indy's Grade I winning son Friends Lake demonstrated to the racing world Saturday that good things don't always have to be worth the wait.  Sped to the front by jockey Calvin Borel through an opening quarter in an eye-catching :21 and change, Friends Lake's SCREEN YOUR FRIEND increased his lead in upper stretch en route to a standout win in Churchill's annual 2YO showcase the GIII Bashford Manor Stakes.  A winner of his last two starts, Screen Your Friend enters the picture of America's top 2-year-old colts and ensures Friends Lake enters the sales season as one of the hottest young stallions in America.

Congratulations to owner Bill Carl, trainer Bernie Flint and jockey Calvin Borel on this truly exciting 2-year-old colt.

GRADE 1 METROPOLITAN MILE WINNER DIVINE PARK TO AIRDRIE STUD UPON RETIREMENT.

Brereton and Elizabeth Jones’ Airdrie Stud has purchased a majority interest in the breeding rights of the recent G1 Metropolitan Handicap winner Divine Park; this transaction will ensure that the son of Chester House will begin his stud career at the Midway, Kentucky farm upon retirement.

A winner of 6 of 8 lifetime starts thus far, including his last three, Divine Park preceded his G1 Met Mile score with a 5-length score in the GIII Westchester H. at Belmont Park, running the mile in 1:32 3/5.  Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin for owner James Barry, Divine Park has earned $607,935 to date and is being pointed towards the G1 Whitney Handicap at Saratoga July 26th.

Brereton Jones said, “The entire Airdrie Team is really excited to have what is possibly America’s most brilliant miler in line to stand at Airdrie Stud when he retires from the track.  Divine Park fits the mold of a number of our young stallions as an absolute physical knock out that will excite the most discriminating breeders.  It’s very exciting to have such a quality horse on line for the future and equally exciting to team up with quality people like owner James Barry and trainer Kiaran McLaughlin.  Quality people and quality horses make for a great relationship!”

LEADING SIRE SILVER HAWK, WHO STOOD HIS ENTIRE STUD CAREER AT BRERETON AND ELIZABETH JONES’S AIRDRIE STUD, has been euthanized at the age of 29 due to the infirmities of old age. By Roberto and out of the Amerigo mare Gris Vitesse, Silver Hawk took the Group III Craven Stakes as a three-year-old in 1982 and also placed third in that year’s Group I Epsom Derby for trainer Michael Albina and owner Buckram Oak Farm.

SILVER HAWK - euthanized at age 29.

In a stud career stretching 20 years, and despite standing for as little as $2,500 early in his career, Silver Hawk established himself as a renowned international sire by the late 1980's. In 1989 he was represented by Group I winner and European Highweight LADY IN SILVER and the multiple US Grade I winner HAWKSTER. His stud fee would pinnacle at $75,000 in the late 1990's based on his continued success in the US, Europe and Japan. Averaging just over 40 foals per crop, Silver Hawk was represented by no fewer than 15 Grade/Group I winners, including Epsom Derby winner BENNY THE DIP, US Grade I winners MEMORIES OF SILVER, WONDER AGAIN, SILVER ENDING, RED BISHOP, HAWK ATTACK and the late NASHOBA’S KEY from his 2nd to last crop.

Other standouts include four time Grade I European winner MUTAFAWEQ and Japanese Champion GRASS WONDER. As an emerging broodmare sire, his daughters have already produced 5 Grade/Group I winners in ASI SIEMPRE, TICKER TAPE, CASTLEDALE, English Group I winner and world record breaking broodmare purchase PLAYFUL ACT and multiple Japanese Group I winner BLACK HAWK. Millionaire, BADGE OF SILVER, himself standing his second season at Airdrie Stud, is out of the Silver Hawk mare Silveroo. To date, Silver Hawk has sired no less than 70 stakes winners and the earners of more than $56 million.

Bret Jones of Airdrie Stud said, "I really can’t begin to tell you what Silver Hawk meant for Airdrie Stud. In the early 90's when the market was down and times were tough, I think it is fair to say that Silver Hawk kept our doors open. He was a real godsend for us and we owe him a lifetime of gratitude. He will always be very special to every member of the Airdrie family. He stood with us for 25 years and really was the face of the farm. Our stallion manager Kelly McDaniel, who started with us at just about the same time as Silver Hawk took wonderful care of him literally until his last breath. We have certainly been very fortunate to have success with several young stallions, but it really all started with Silver Hawk. He was the king of that barn until the very end and was as tough as they come. When STEVIE WONDERBOY was paraded in the barn for the first time in early July last year, Silver Hawk wheeled in his stall and double barreled the stall door when he walked by. He was as smart as he was tough, and our young studs have a tough act to follow."

Silver Hawk was pensioned in 2004 and lived the remainder of his life in the Airdrie Stud stallion barn. He is buried directly beside the barn he called home for 25 years.

A stakes winning juvenile last year, Include's talented 3-year-old filly Hartigan showed that 2008 could prove even better with a convincing win in Saturday's Hilltop Stakes at Pimlico.  Like so many of the Include's, Hartigan appears to relish the extra ground and gives every indication that she will only improve with both distance and maturity.  Saddled by trainer Richard Small, who has conditioned several impressive Include performers, including the multiple stakes colt Etude for the Fitzhugh stable, Hartigan appears poised for a very strong campaign.  Congratulations to all her connections!

STORMIN FEVER'S MONSTER MAY ADDS TO HIS STRONG 2008!

An annual fixture on the General Sire List, the ultra-consistent Stormin Fever added to his strong 2008 with several promising winners in the month of May:

Whirlie Bertie: A dominant Msw winner on Oaks Day at Churchill Downs by 3 1/4 lengths, Whirlie Bertie returned with an effortless 7 3/4 score when facing winners for the first time at the historic Louisville track May 21st.  This filly continues to look a horse with a big future for trainer Steve Margolis.  Stay tuned...

Black Wolf:  The Stormin Fever colt made his 2008 debut a memorable one in dominating a Maiden Special Weight at Hollywood by an easy 3 1/2 lengths.  The effort was good for a sensational 97 Beyer Speed Figure and sent a clear signal that the Bruce Headley trainee is sitting on a very big year indeed.

Already the sire of 4 stakes winners in 2008 and the earner's of more than $1.5 million, Stormin Fever's strong showing over the last month also included Hollywood stakes winner Sangay, Japanese stakes hero Fusaichi Auster and the stakes-placed Air Lord.  His powerful May and rock-solid 2008 once again demonstrate that at $7,500, its tough to find a better producer of racehorses than Stormin Fever!

Indian Charlie’s son Mr. Nightlinger continued his impressive form, taking this graded event on the Oaks undercard. After wiring the field in the GIII Shakertown at Keenland, the story was much the same here. The W. Bret Calhoun trainee broke easily and was settled on the lead by Jamie Theriot, in an opening fraction of :22.3. Mr. Nightlinger was then turned loose in the turn and shot away from the field in the stretch to win impressively. Congratulations to all the connections and best of luck with the upcoming campaign of this highly impressive colt!

PROUD CITIZEN'S PROUD SPELL DOMINATES THE 134th RUNNING OF THE HISTORIC GRADE 1 KENTUCKY OAKS!

GI $500,000 Kentucky Oaks
Churchill Downs   1 1/8m

Cementing himself as one of the world's brightest young stars at stud, Proud Citizen added a Kentucky Oaks win to his blossoming stallion resume when his brilliant daughter Proud Spell ran off to a 5 length victory in the historic race.  Sent off the race favorite, Proud Spell ended all doubt with a remarkable turn of foot at the head of the stretch that left her competitors dueling only for the place spot.  Long considered a stellar 3-year-old filly crop, Proud Spell's win has certainly solidified her billing as the nation's top 3-year-old filly and puts her squarely in the lead for year-end honors.  An Airdrie homebred, all of us at Airdrie send out our deepest appreciation to Larry and Cindy Jones, groom Corey York, the great Gabriel Saez and the entire Larry Jones Team that have become our wonderful friends during Proud Spell's very special campaign.  At the same time, we also send out our deepest condolences to Rick Porter and all those connected with the brilliant Eight Belles who leaves us as a true legend.

Allowance, 7 Furlongs

4-25-08

Proud Citizen’s super star in the making, Motovato, left the crowd absolutely awestruck, with his dazzling 15 length win in a tough allowance at Calder. Making his first start for trainer Martin Wolfson, Motovato took the lead with ease after the half and went on to score in a hand ride. The final time for the seven furlongs was just 2/5 of a second off the track record! The colt earned a 111 Beyer, which is the highest of any 3yo to race this season, and the 3rd highest of any horse in training! Congratulations to all the connections and good luck with a colt that seems poised to make a big impact on the major races this season!

Like so many of the Proud Citizen’s, Instill continues to improve with age and distance and has stamped himself as yet another top 3yo for his sensational young sire. Newmarket – Mrs. Jane Chapple-Hyam purchased a Proud Citizen colt for $413,883 at the opening session of the Tattersall’s Craven Breeze Up Sale. Out of the Dixieland Band mare Landholder, he is a half brother to the stakes horses, Skyrock (by Sky Classic) and Our Joy (by El Prado). Consigned by Mocklershill Stables, the colt was purchased for $200,000 at last years Keenland September sale by Meadowlands Stud.

Day two of the sale provided another highlight for Proud Citizen when Charlie Gordon Watson signed the ticket for $314,259. The Bay Colt is out of the Deputy Minister mare Sunset Service, who is the dam of the Stakes winning full brothers, Vespers and Database.

This son of Proud Citizen was consigned by Yeomanstown Stud, Ireland. This was a great pin hooking result, as the colt was purchased by Ben McElroy at Keenland September for $60,000.

An impressive winner of his last two, Proud Citizen's promising son Flying Dismount had showcased the talent needed for top trainer Christophe Clement to test him in graded company.  Though checked going into the far turn, Flying Dismount demonstrated a swift turn of foot to be second, beaten by a quickly diminishing neck in the GIII Palm Beach Stakes at Gulfstream Park.  Now being pointed towards the major 3-year-old summer turf stakes, Flying Dismount represents yet another top class 3-year-old performer from Proud Citizen's first crop and gives every indication that he is headed for big things this season!

GII $400,000 Fair Ground Oaks
Fair Grounds  1 1/16m

Turning the tables on the only filly ever to finish in front of her, Proud Spell raced away from previously undefeated champion Indian Blessing to take the historic GII Fair Grounds Oaks on Saturday.  Now at the top of her standout 3-year-old class, Proud Spell's dominant performance was made all the more impressive by the fact that she ran the 1 1/16 mile race 2/5ths of a second faster than the much heralded Pyro ran his Louisiana Derby the very next race at the same distance.  A winner now of 4 of 6 starts, with her only defeats a pair of seconds to Indian Charlie's great champion, Proud Spell is well on her way to the GI Kentucky Oaks and continues to help establish her sire Proud Citizen as one of the hottest young stallions in the world!
Airdrie would like to wish congratulations and our deepest appreciation to jockey Gabriel Saez and all the team in the barn of top trainer Larry Jones!

GII $600,000 Louisiana Derby
Fair Grounds  1 1/16 m

Billed roundly as the most important Kentucky Derby prep to date, The GII Louisiana Derby was filled with some of the biggest names in the three-year-old ranks with Pyro, Tale of Etakti, Majestic Warrior and J Be K to name just a few.  In the end, only Pyro proved too good for Indian Charlie's improving colt My Pal Charlie and Yankee Gentleman's ultra-talented Yankee Bravo.  Leading from the start, My Pal Charlie ran a monsterous race, leading into midstretch before holding off a slew of talented colts to secure the place, while previously undefeated Yankee Bravo was last early and made a strong move through traffic to complete the trifecta.  Tentative plans for Yankee Bravo are now to contest the GI Santa Anita Derby while My Pal Charlie has stamped himself a top contender en route to Churchill Downs.

POP THE CORK: HARLAN'S HOLIDAY CONTINUES HIS REMARKABLE RUN!

Harlan's Holiday Quickly Becomes the Unquestioned Leader of his Stallion Crop

It did not take long last year for Harlan's Holiday to establish himself as one of the hottest young sires in the country en route to a second place finish among the Nation's first crop sires.  This year, Harlan's Holiday has ascended into a class all his own, as his first crop 3yo's are the talk of the triple crown trail.  In a remarkable NINE day period from February 9th through the 18th, Harlan's Holdiday enjoyed an unprecedented run of success that has made him one of the most exciting young stallions in the world:

2/18- The undefeated Denis of Cork instantly establishes himself as one of the early favorites for the Kentucky Derby with a brilliant turn of foot in landing the GIII $250,000  Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park.  A Triple Crown buzz horse since the day he broke his maiden in spectacular fashion in his November debut at Churchill, the David Carroll trainee is slated to make his next start in the GIII Rebel Stakes as he continues his march back to Churchill Downs.

2/16- Cot Campbell's Dogwood Stables looks to have yet another colt on the Derby trail after their colt Holidaze effortlessly took a tough Aqueduct allowance over the weekend.  A stakes performer at 2, Holidaze looks to have progressed beautifully into his sophomore campaign and is slated for a Triple Crown prep in his next start for top trainer Todd Pletcher.

2/10- GI winner Into Mischief, the diamond of Harlan's Holiday's first crop juveniles got off to a fine start for his Triple Crown campaign in running a strong 2nd in the GII San Vicente in a race that leading trainer Richard Mandella pronounced was merely a stepping stone to bigger things.  Already a GI winner around two turns, the 7f San Vicente should represent an ideal prep for a sophomore campaign with limitless potential.

2/09- Like Into Mischief, graded stakes winning juvenile Tasha's Miracle was making her first start of the year when ambitiously placed in the GI Las Virgenes Stakes at Santa Anita.  Her nice middle move and third place finish seem to signify that she too has made the proper transition into her 3-year-old year and represents another potential star for Harlan's Holiday in what has quickly become an absolutely sensational 2008!

Congratulations to all the connections of these rising stars!

$100,000 Hallendale Beach S
Gulfstream Park

The Hallendale Beach Stakes was supposed to be a coronation for the Todd Pletcher trained Cowboy Cal, long viewed as one of the best 3yos in the country...instead, it was Pletcher's OTHER 3-year-old, Why Tonto, that stole the show.  Highly regarded since early in his 2yo year, the son of Indian Charlie looks to have truly come of age as he raced alongside his highly regarded stablemate before pulling away in the stretch fo an ultra-impressive win.  While his next start is still in question, there is no doubt that Why Tonto is heading towards being a very special 3-year-old.  Congratulations to all his winning connections!

GIII $200,000 Silverbulletday S.
Fair Grounds  1 1/16m

Another race...another sensational performance by champion Indian Blessing.  Though well tested by Proud Citizen's top class daughter Proud Spell through the Fair Grounds stretch, Indian Charlie's brilliant filly ran her record to a perfect 5 for 5 in taking the graded Silverbulletday.  Now 2 for 2 on the year and viewed as the favorite for the GI Kentucky Oaks, Indian Blessing represents the biggest name but is just one of several Indian Charlie 3yo's that are drawing national attention.  Congratulations to all her championship connections!

Coming off a fantastic yearling sale season that saw his progeny average over $75,000, Friends Lake continued to build momentum with his first crop as he was represented by a standout $450,000 2-year-old in Ocala's initial breeze sale.  A $140,000 yearling, the strapping colt was the talk of the Ocala backside in the days leading up to the sale and justified the hype by drawing a final bid of $450,000 from leader owner Padua stables.  All in all, Friends Lake concluded the sale as the 2nd leading freshman sire by average, a truly remarkable accomplishment for a $15,000 stallion.  Congratulations to Mike Mulligan and his Leprechaun sales partners for their fantastic job with this truly exciting colt!

YANKEE GENTLEMAN'S UNDEFEATED YANKEE BRAVO EXPLODES ONTO DERBY SCENE!

$150,000 California Derby
Golden Gate  1 1/16m

When Yankee Bravo exploded through the tiniest of holes to fearlessly take the Eddie Logan Stakes in December over the Hollywood Park turf, he tabbed himself as a major 3-year-old to watch in California.  Saturday, he cemented that reputation with a dazzling performance in the $150,000 California Derby at Golden Gate, and in doing so, placed himself firmly on the Kentucky Derby trail.  Undefeated now in three lifetime starts, Yankee Bravo has made every effort a memorable one; breaking his maiden by an eye-popping six lengths in his debut in England, showing a masterful turn of foot in the Eddie Logan, and, Saturday, showing he could overcome a nightmare trip behind a full field and still find a way to win.  Breaking a couple strides slow, Yankee Bravo was last going into the first turn on Saturday, and was at the mercy of the pedestrian fractions up front as the pacesetters crawled through a half in 49 and change.  Unhurried behind a wall of horses, jockey Alex Solis kept his mount on the rail and let his natural speed keep him close enough to be able to hit the hole if one was to open.  As they hit the stretch, Yankee Bravo did just that and within a few seconds had rushed to the lead and left no doubt as to who would get to the wire first.  This monster performance going two turns over the synthetic surface gives every indication that Yankee Bravo is sitting on a very exciting sophomore campaign indeed!

Congratulations to all his connections and best of luck with this very exciting colt!

2 Years...2 Champions for Indian Charlie!

$24,000 Allowance Race
Turfway Park  6f

Coming off a dominating 13 1/2 length maiden win in her last start, much was expected of Yankee Gentleman's daughter Talk Fast when she made her debut against winners.  Bet down to 4-5 for the Turfway Park feature, Talk Fast never gave her backer's an anxious moment as she once again devastated her competition, this time opening up to win by 8 1/4 lengths in the easiest of fashions.  Having now won her last two races by a mind-blowing 22 lengths, Talk Fast appears a filly with a very bright future indeed!

Congratulations to all the connections of this very exciting filly.

The Ultra-Impressive Yankee Bravo Becomes Yankee Gentleman's Newest Stakes Star!

Santa Anita 12-29-07 - 1 Mile Turf
Eddie Logan Stakes - $79,850.

YANKEE BRAVO made his U.S debut a scintilating one in running away with Santa Anita's Eddie Logan Stakes to remain undefeated.  Seemingly trapped beyond hope in the stretch, Yankee Bravo made his own racing luck by bullying through a hole and then exploding away from the field in the final sixteenth.  Favored for this contest after a dominating 6 length maiden score, Yankee Bravo demonstrated the brilliance that proved the hallmark of his sire's racing career.  Now with an impressive 15 winners from his first crop including stakes stars Yankee Bravo and Golden Yank, Yankee Gentleman enters 2008 with major momentum on his side!
Congratulations to owners Harlequin Ranches and Bienstock, breeders Tommy Burberry and Barry Hay, jockey Alex Solis and trainer Paddy Gallagher!

MISCHIEF AND DRAMA FOR THE HOLIDAYS!

INTO MISCHIEF wins Hollywood's Grade 1 CashCall Futurity. $750,000.

This handsome Mandella trained colt with an eyecatching white blaze has everyone talking.  Breaking his maiden in his first start in Santa Anita's Oak Tree meet in late October, he made his next outing in the Grade 3 Hollywood Prevue on Thanksgiving weekend.  That race saw him battle with Massive Drama through 7 furlongs to be second best at the wire.  Stretching to 1 1/16 miles for the Futurity Into Mischief was smoothly away from the stalls and sent to the front where he kept pace a neck outside of the pace setter.  Espinoza sent him to the lead at the top of the stretch and the big scopey colt looked fresh and strong in his journey to the wire holding off Colonel John and Massive Drama by 1 1/4.

A fantastic race for Mandella who says B. Wayne Hughes colt will only get smarter going forward.

Into Mischief - Lifetime 3-2-1-0, $448,800.

STORMIN BAGHDAD - Back to Back Stakes Wins!

Fair Grounds - Bonapaw Stakes.
5 1/2 furlongs (off turf), $100,000.

Stormin Baghdad has only been off the board three times in his 16 career starts and really blossomed late in 2007 under the tutelage of Steve Asmussen.  Stormin Baghdad sprinted to his first stakes win in a Thanksgiving Day Handicap at Fair Grounds clocking the 6 furlongs in 1:09.2.   Drawing into the Bonapaw Stakes when it was taken off the turf he teamed up with Sean Bridgemohan this time going 5 1/2  panels.  Breaking on top he stayed with a severe pace through the first quarter mile but dropped back to third until leaving the turn.  Making his move along the rail he responded strongly to be clear by a length and finish with a kick to stop the clock in 1:04 flat and a 98 Beyer Speed rating.

Lifetime: 13-6-3-1, $229,542.

Another Monster Weekend For Proud Citizen!

$114,700 Jim Edgar Futurity
Hawthorne Park  1 1/16m

Proud Citizen put a major exclamation mark on what has been an absolutely standout freshman season over the weekend, as two new colts emerged on the triple crown trail in the form of dominant stakes winner Instill and the promising maiden winner The Darp.  Having broken his maiden by more than 11 lengths at Hawthorne, Instill further showed his mastery over that surface with a runaway, 5 length victory in the $100,000 Jim Edgar Futurity on Saturday.  Taking the lead easily at the head of the stretch, Instill was never asked until deep stretch and responded beautifully, bounding away by an effortless 5 lengths at the wire.  Congratulations to all the connections of this very exciting classic prospect.

Just a day earlier, Proud Citizen's ultra talented colt, The Darp, left the Fair Ground's crowd awestruck with his thoroughly dominant 9 1/4 length win over a tough maiden special field going a mile.  Ridden with great confidence, the Ronnie Werner trained, Ben Berger and Connie Scanlon owned colt exploded away in the stretch; justifying the bettor's choice in sending him away the 4-5 favorite.  Congratulations to all the connections and good luck with a colt that seems poised to become a major triple crown prospect!

Thanksgiving Day Storm: New Stakes winner for Stormin Fever

$60,000 Thanksgiving Stakes
Fair Grounds 6f

Although Stormin Baghdad has always been viewed as a talented colt, he has truly come into his own since joining the barn of top class conditioner Steve Asmussen.  Beaten just a length in the GIII Kentucky Cup Sprint in his first start for his new barn, Stormin Baghdad has won his last two starts like a colt with a big future.  On Thansgiving day at the Fair Grounds, Stormin Baghdad cut out suicidal fractions of 44 4/5 and 56 3/5 and still had enough in the tank to repel a top group of stakes horses in finishing the 6 furlongs in 1:09 and change.  The effort was good for a 99 Beyer Speed figure, and stamped Stormin Baghdad as a top older sprinting prospect for next season.
Perrenially among the leading general and juvenile sires, Stormin Fever has enjoyed another successful year in 2007 with six stakes winners, 12 stakes horses and over $3.6 million in earnings.  With a career yearling average of nearly seven times his stud fee, he continues to be one of the best values in the stud book!

Yankee Gentleman's Golden Yank Continues to Impress

Boyd Gaming's Delta Jackpot S. (Grade 3)

Boyd Gaming's Delta Jackpot S. (Grade 3)
1 1/16 miles - Delta Downs, purse $1,000,000.

Coming off an effortless 4 1/2 length romp in a $100,000 stake in only his second start, Golden Yank was every bit as impressive in decimating a quality field by 5 easy lengths in the $150,000 Jean Lafitte Stakes in his last start.  Made one of the favorites for the rich GIII $1,000,000 Delta Jackpot, Golden Yank found himself in tight between horses in the stretch before falling just a neck short of the winner at the wire.  While a foul claim was disallowed by the Stewards, Golden Yank's effort was unquestionably impressive and he continues to give every indication that he will be among the top 3yos of next year's crop.
With 13 winners from his first crop of 2yos, including the multiple stakes winning Golden Yank, Yankee Gentleman continues his ascent up the freshman sire ranks.

Congratulations to all his connections!

Proud Spell Caps Sensational Season with a Powerful Breeder's Cup Run

$2,000,000 GI Breeder's Cup Juvenile Fillies
Belmont Park  1 1/16m

Following her sensational score in the historic GII Matron Stakes at Belmont Park, Proud Spell demonstrated unquestionably that she is one of the best 2yo fillies in the nation with her powerful second place effort in the GI Breeder's Cup Juvenile Fillies.  Despite struggling a bit to grab hold of the sloppy Monmouth Park track, Proud Spell was making up ground with each of her final strides on Indian Blessing and gave every indication that the longer distances that await her next season should offer no problem.  Proud Spell is just one of her sire Proud Citizen's stars this year, which include GIII winning European star River Proud as well as the graded and multiple stakes placed filly Dreabon's Legacy.  Second to only Posse on the freshman sire list and a top-5 overall juvenile sire, Proud Citizen is rapidly establishing himself as one of the nation's truly elite young sires!

Congratulations to all her conections and a special Airdrie thank you to the training team of Larry and Cindy Jones!

Two Years-Two Champions for Indian Charlie!

GI $2,000,000 Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies
Monmouth Park 10/27/07

This time last year, it was Indian Charlie's brilliant daughter Fleet Indian who was en route to a year end Eclipse Award as the nation's champion older mare.  This year, there will assuradely be another daughter of Indian Charlie honored at the annual awards dinner; the undefeated and unchallenged Indian Blessing.  A dominant winner of all three of her starts this season, Indian Blessing put an exclamation mark on her brilliant campaign with an emphatic, runaway victory in the GI $2,000,000 Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies.  Her victory caps another banner year for her sire Indian Charlie, who, in addition to Indian Blessing's heroism, has already been represented by 9 stakes winners in 2007, 3 juvenile stakes winners, and 15 yearlings that have brought $130,000 or more in the sales ring, leaving no doubt that he has truly arrived as a top tier stallion.

Congratulations to all of Indian Blessing's championship connections, including owner/breeder Hal and Patti Earnhardt, trainer Bob Baffert and jockey Garret Gomez.

Airdrie would also like to thank all the breeders that have helped support Indian Charlie throughout his career and have helped him ascend to the upper echelon of the stallion ranks....Thank You!

WHAT A BLESSING: INDIAN CHARLIE'S DAUGHTER ROMPS IN THE GI FRIZETTE!

Frizette Stakes, Grade 1, $400,000
Belmont Park, 1 Mile.

INDIAN BLESSING is an undefeated Grade 1 winner in only her second start!

A record setter at Saratoga in her first start, Bob Baffert's Indian Blessing had romped to a 5 1/2 length victory in 1:03.1.   Her win here in top company at Belmont by an easy 4 1/2 in the Grade 1 Frizette shoots her to the top of the east coast fillies division as she now prepares for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies.  Bob Baffert was especially excited that his first time winning this event came for his long time client Hal Earnhardt who also bred and raced her sire INDIAN CHARLIE.

THE RAID CONTINUES: INCLUDE'S DAUGHTER BRILLIANT AGAIN!

$500,000 GI Spinster Stakes
Keeneland  1 1/8 miles

Already a GI winner on the turf and a GII winner on conventional dirt, Panty Raid demonstrated her unequalled versatility in taking the historic GI Spinster Stakes over the Polytrack at Keeneland.  Despite facing a top-class field that included Grade I winners Lady Joanne and Asi Siempre, Panty Raid came home an emphatic winner despite having to sit back behind tepid fractions up front.  In doing so, Panty Raid became racing's newest millionairess and is one of a mind-blowing five American Grade I horses for her sire Include, whose first crop are just 3-year-olds.  In comparison, Street Cry is his closest rival in that category with 2 among second crop sires.

Congratulations to owners Glencrest Farm, breeders Heaven Trees Farm, jockey Garret Gomez and trainer Todd Pletcher!

RIVER PROUD wins Newmarket's Group 3 Somerville Tattersall Stakes.  An upbeat Paul Cole was confident in his colt's ability to bounce back here and River Proud ran a professional race to win going away from a strong field, besting Godolphin favorite Iguazu Falls.  River Proud was already Graded stakes placed after an impressive 2nd in the Group 2 July Stakes also at Newmarket.

River Proud is Proud Citizen's 2nd graded stakes winner after Proud Spell dazzled with an easy 4 1/4 length win in Belmont's Grade 2 Matron Stakes.  Proud Spell is now pointed towards the Breeders' Cup Juvenile fillies.

2 Days...3 Dynamite 2-year-olds for Include

Second crop sire sensation Include, whose greatest racing successes came during his 4-year-old year, is once again impressing with his juveniles this year.  Though always expected to be at their best with maturity and added distance, Include's 2-year-old crop of last year left little doubt as to his potential at stud as his Cash Included took the Grade I Oak Leaf stakes in her second career start.  This year, Include is once again demonstrating his versatility in siring top runners.  Over the weekend, Include was represented by THREE stand out juveniles, headlined by ultra-quick daughter Hartigan.  Sent off as the 4-5 favorite in the 6 furlong Gin Talking S. at Laurel, Hartigan did not disappoint, winning easily in an eye-opening 1:08 4/5.
On the other side of the country, Include's impressive maiden winner Shore Do ran a top race to be a close up 3rd in the historic Grade I Norfolk Stakes at Santa Anita.  Shore Do becomes Include's remarkable 5th Grade I horse, towering him above all other 2nd crop sires in that department as Street Cry stands a distant second with 2 winning or placed horses at racing's highest level.  Include's monster weekend was capped by the favored China's Dragonlady's impressive performance in breaking her maiden by 6 effortless lengths in taking a Msw at Remington.  All three of Include's impressive runners fit the description of the vast amjority of Include runners:  The further they go...the better they'll be!  Congratulations and good luck to all of their connections

New 2-Yr-Old Stakes Winner for INDIAN CHARLIE.

World Appeal Stakes, $55,000.
Meadowlands, 1 Mile 70 yards, Turf.

WHY TONTO, trying stakes for the first time for trainer Todd Pletcher, did not disappoint bettors as the favorite backed to win in his first stakes try in only 4 starts and now celebrating back-to-back wins on the turf.  Why Tonto settled on the inside toward the rear of the pack as Piquante Cat clipped through speedy fractions, then he launched a bid leaving the turn and had to chase down Piquante Cat but found an extra kick inside the final furlong to get up in the last stides for a head victory.

Congratulations to the Starlight Stable group, Paul Saylor and Donald Lucarelli.

Belmont Park

Now undefeated and largely untested in three career starts, Proud Citizen's Breeder's Cup bound daughter, Proud Spell, took the historic GII Matron Stakes at Belmont Park by a hand-ridden 4 1/4 lengths.  Bet down as the race favorite after a devastating 5 length victory in her stakes debut, Proud Spell was widest of all turning for home before inhaling the top class group of 2-year-old fillies and being hand ridden to the wire.  Her win further cements Proud Citizen's place as a truly elite freshman and juvenile sire as he adds a Breeder's Cup Starter to his already impressive 10 winners and 3 graded stakes horses from his first crop to race.  Stay Tuned!

Trainer John Sadler said Tasha's Miracle, owned by a partnership of Syd Belzberg's Budget Stables and Team Valor, now becomes a major contender for the G1 Del Mar Debutante in September with this stylish win.

She's the second major stakes winner for Harlan's Holiday who is rapidly ascending the freshman sire list for 2007.

Delaware Park, $20,000 maiden, 5 1/2 furlongs.

LOVERS SPAT, a Graham Motion trained filly put on a fine performance in her debut to come from behind and defeat an experienced field in her first start.  Sent off the 4th choice in her bow she bid three wide into the stretch and held on well while the favorite Jenny's Rose drew off by 3 mid-stretch, then came on again to run that one down late on the outside and take the wire clear by 1 1/2.

HARLAN'S HOLIDAY colt wins stake in 2nd start.

Woodbine - Colin Stakes
$120,000, 6 Furlongs

BEAR HOLIDAY came from off the pace four wide to win his five furlong debut over this track on June 24th and was the second choice as he stepped up to stakes company.  The grey colt made his run very late, seemingly taking on an insurmountable task to catch the favorite Dancing Allstar. The rush by Bear Holiday was impressive and the pair were 6 lengths clear at the wire with Bear Holiday getting his nose down in the photo to score his first stakes.

Record: 2-2-0-0, $105,199.

Bear Holiday becomes the first stakes winner for freshman sire Harlan's Holiday and moves him to #2 on the freshman sire list.

Fifth winner for Harlan's Holiday in an impressive debut.

Belmont Park, $50,960 MSW, 5 1/2 furlongs.

RILEY TUCKER was a $375,000 yearling who had a buzz going around the Mott barn with sharp works and his form here was no secret among bettors who sent him off at even money.

Sporting blinkers for his first outing he jumped smartly from the gate and shrugged off rivals on the turn.  Jockey Edgar Prado had him clipping through fractions of :22.1 and :44.4 and the colt powered home under a hand ride, widening his advantage to six lengths at the wire to close out the win in 1:03 for the 5 1/2 furlongs.

Stay tuned for more from this talented colt owned by Zayat Stables LLC.

PROUD CITIZEN 2YR OLDS SHINE IN ENGLAND.

Newmarket, July 12th - Group 2 July Stakes.

Impressive performances from the best 2YO colts in England made for a thrilling finish as Winker Watson (Piccolo) got up right on the line to pip River Proud (Proud Citizen) at the wire, the pair finishing a length and a half clear of Swiss Franc (Mr. Greeley).  Paul Cole's River Proud struck the front inside the final furlong and looked to have the race in hand but was denied by Winker Watson who came from a long way back to get up by a short head on the line.  Paul Cole said "River Proud has run a hell of a race.  The winner looks a speed horse where ours is more of a stayer.  Six furlongs is a bare minimum for him and he will stay further.  He's a really good horse and I will step him up in trip next time, although we are not making any plans as he will have a bit of a break first."

Newmarket, July 11th - Group 2 Cherry Hinton S.

A fillies race with solid form no doubt sporting some future Group 1 heroines let by You'resothrilling (Storm Cat). The third choice Francesca D'Gorgio (Proud Citizen) raced alone in front, the overall leader, and was still only just reeled in at the wire in a four-way photo to seperate all those involved in a tight finish. She remains progressive with this encouraging run.

FIRST STAKES HORSE FOR PROUD CITIZEN.

7/7/07 - Churchill Downs
$100,000 Grade 3 Debutante Stakes.

DREABONS LEGACY ran a tremendous debut for trainer Steven Flint at Churchill at the end of May, dominating rivals under a hand ride from Julien Leparoux.  Her time of :50 4/5 was just 1/5th off the track record.  Only the 4th choice of bettors on a really steamy Saturday in Louisville she ran a strong race to be up for second after a four wide trip, but could not catch the incredible Rated Fiesty who ran away with the score.

Dreabons Legacy becomes the first stakes horse for PROUD CITIZEN, but stay tuned as other stars emerge in England and North America.

The original Rags to Riches - LAVA MAN

LAVA MAN lands historic Hollywood Gold Cup Victory.

Lava Man, conceding 9 pounds to AP Excellent as the 124 pound highweight, pushed that rival every inch of the Hollywood Park stretch to score a record equalling third consecutive victory in the Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup.

Lava Man raced comfortably off the rail, charged to the lead leaving the turn but found he had a willing opponent in pacesetter AP Excellent, who dug in gamely until Lava Man pushed his nose in front at the wire.

The six-year-old California bred gelding is trained by Doug O'Neill for owners STD Racing Stable and Jason Wood. Mr. O'Neill and his family watched from a vacation spot in Ireland as his star pushed his earnings over the Five Million mark.

Record 38-17-8-3, $5,189,706.

PROUD CITIZEN'S RIVER PROUD DAZZLES IN ENGLAND

Newbury Maiden S
6 furlongs

Already the sire of TDN Rising Star Motovato and near Churchill Downs track record-setter Dreabon's Legacy, Proud Citizen cemented his place as a breakout freshman sire with River Proud's thoroughly dominating performance.  His effortless, 5 length gallop against a typically tough Newbury field earned him the title of a TDN Rising Star and quickly made him the talk of this year's European juvenile crop.  Slated to make his next start in the GII July S as one of the betting favorites, Mrs. Michael Spencer's colt indeed appears a rising star for top trainer Paul Cole.  Below, the expert's takes on his commanding performance:

"We've always liked this horse...He's a big, scopey colt with a future, so the probable route will be to go to Newmarket (for the GII July S)...That was an impressive performance!"    -Trainer Paul Cole

"He is surely a Group class two-year old and, very likely, a smart miler for next year."   -The Racing Post

Congratulations to all his excited connections!

PANTY RAID WINS GRADE 2 BLACK EYED SUSAN WITH AUTHORITY!

PANTY RAID, trained by top trainer Todd Pletcher was sent off at 5-2 as the second choice amid much hype after her recent performances at Keeneland and in Turfway's Bourbonette Breeders' Cup Stakes (G3) where she broke through the gate prior to the start but fininshed with a huge run in a photo for first place.

PANTY RAID broke well this time and was sent to the rail by Edgar Prado and saved ground through the half led by BARONESS THATCHER in fractions of 24.05 and 48.08. Kicked into gear leaving the turn PANTY RAID was momentarily blocked behind the pacesetter but eased out near the furlong marker and quickly drew past BARONESS THATCHER and extended her lead from WINNING POINT by 1 at the wire.

Bred by Dede McGehee and owned by Glencrest Farm, Airdrie extends congratulations to all for this special filly and her spectacular run for the Daisies!

TATTERSALLS CRAVEN BREEZE-UP SALE, APR 19.

John Ferguson signed for the top three lots at yesterday;s second session of the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale, headed by a 320,000 Guineas HARLAN'S HOLIDAY colt....(approx $670,000).  Willie Browne's Mocklershill Stables sold the colt, on which agent Anthony Stroud, standing with trainer Jeremy Noseda and owner Paul Roy, was underbidder.  "He breezed exceptionally well and from our point of view he was the pick of the colts here," said Ferguson. "Therefore we knew there would be a lot of competition for him.  We bought a Harlan's Holiday in Calder this year who was a similar type and I've been impressed by them.  We'll talk to Sheikh Mohammed, but I think it is likely he'll stay over here to race".

Three Breakout performers for 2nd Leading Sophomore Sire on the Same Day!

$100,000 Private Terms S.
Laurel Park 1m

Etude established himself as a top triple crown candidate with an effortless, 5 3/4 length win in Laurel Park's $100,000 feature.  Though facing stakes company for the first time, Etude never felt the whip as he was hand ridden to the wire in a race that had been decided by the top of the stretch.  The superalatives were freely flowing from Laurel's track announcer as he exclaimed,  "its looking like a workout here for Etude...Etude could be a rising star!"  Undefeated and untested in three starts this year, having won all by at least 5 1/2 lengths, Etude has the look of a graded stakes star.  Stay tuned!

Congratulations to owner/breeder Fitzhugh LLC, trained Richard Small and jockey Luis Garcia!

$44,000 Msw
Gulfstream Park 1m

While Etude was making his case as the newest buzz horse on the Triple Crown trail, Tracy Farmer's handsome Include colt, Comprise, was recording a very auspicious first win for trainer Nick Zito.  Comprise took control at the head of the stretch after a strong middle move and never relinguished the lead despite the challeges of a typically tough Gulfstream field.  An Airdrie homebred out of the Irish Tower mare Mystic Tower, Comprise, like so many of the Includes, looks to only improve with age and distance for his top shelf connections.

Congratulations to owner Tracy Farmer, trainer Nick Zito an jockey J. Alvarado!

$150,000 GIII Bourbonette S.
Turfway Park  1m

On the national radar since her devastating, 7 3/4 length debut maiden win at Saratoga, Glencrest Farm's ultratalented filly Panty Raid made a stirring stakes debut in the GIII Bourbonette.  Despite breaking through the gate prior to the start after a rival had broken through next to her, Panty Raid was extremely professional in uncorking a late run to fall just a head short of the winner before getting past her right after the wire.  In the hands of the brilliant Todd Pletcher, Panty Raid gives every indication that her's is a limitless future.

Congratulations to owner Glencrest Farm, breeder Heaven Trees Farm, trainer Todd Pletcher and jockey Edgar Prado!

PROUD CITIZEN'S ECHOING THEIR SIRE'S PRECOCIOUS SPEED

Hip #'s 35 and 223 made quite the impression at the opening breeze show for the 2007 Calder 2yo sale, adding to the considerable promise of their young sire Proud Citizen.  Hip #35, a $155,000 Keeneland September filly went an effortless 10 2/5 over the slower calder track, making a very strong physical impression as well.  Hip #223, a $250,000 Mike Ryan September purchase also accounted herself well with an equally effortless breeze in 10 3/5, while demostrating the elegance that led to her substantial yearling price tag.  Look for both fillies to only add momentum to Proud Citizen's impressive first crop when they go through the ring Tuesday afternoon!

AT RACING'S HIGHEST LEVEL, INCLUDE STANDS ALONE

Following Runway Rosie's strong third place effort in Saturday's Grade 1 Las Virgenes, Include now has an astonishing THREE G1 horses in his first crop, as she joins G1 winner Cash Included and G1 placed She's Included.  Not only does this accomplishment place him atop his sophomore sire crop, incredibly, it represents the same number of G1 horses that every other second crop sire has COMBINED!  For a horse that only got better with age and added distance, these results give every indication that Include is well on his way to bonafide stardom at stud!

INCLUDE COLT FOLLOWING IN HIS SIRE'S FOOTSTEPS

2/2/07 Laurel Park
$32,000 alw  1m

Just as his sire did early in his own three year old campaign, Etude is establishing himself as a dominant force at Laurel Park.  After breaking his maiden by a widening 5 1/2 length romp just a month earlier, Etude once again made quick work of his opposition, taking a mile allowance by 6 lengths, a margin that could have been far greater had he not been geared down through much of the stretch.  Like his sire, Etude looks to only getting better with agae and added distance, and has clearly established himself as a three year old with a very bright future!

Congratulations to all his winning connections!

INCLUDE has three highweight fillies.

INCLUDE was a better race horse at four than he was at three, and he was better at three than he was at two.

So think about this:
INCLUDE sired the highest weighted 2-YR-OLD filly in America by a Freshman sire, with CASH INCLUDED weighted at 119 pounds.  In addition, INCLUDE is the ONLY Freshman sire in America to have sired THREE (3) fillies to be weighted on The Experimental Handicap.

If they're good now, just wait till they mature!

FLEET INDIAN NAMED CHAMPION OLDER MARE IN 2006 ECLIPSE AWARDS

When Paul Saylor purchased Fleet Indian at the 2006 Keeneland January mixed sale, he had modest expectations and plans for the then 5-year-old mare. The Atlanta businessman hoped she could win some New York-bred stakes races and then be bred to Claiborne Farm stallion Purge, a grade I-winning son of Pulpit in whom he owns a part. What he was not expecting was that his $290,000 purchase would become a multiple grade I winner, a standout in her division, and be named champion older female for 2006.

For a solid year, the Indian Charlie mare was unbeatable. Her major wins came in the Personal Ensign and Beldame Stakes (both gr. I), and the Todd Pletcher trainee took an eight-race win streak into the Emirates Airline Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I) Nov. 4 at Churchill Downs.

Hopes were high going into the Distaff, and Fleet Indian entered the starting the gate as a slight favorite over Pine Island, but neither mare would finish the race. Fleet Indian turned out to be the lucky one as she suffered an injury to her left front suspensory ligament, but survived, while Pine Island was euthanized on the track.

“I wanted a good race and a safe race and didn't get either,” Saylor said. “I went from being on a high because I was confident she could win the race to an absolute low because when I reached her, the first prognosis was that there was bone damage, not just soft tissue damage. I was absolutely elated a half-hour later, after she was examined in the stall. I felt like I had won the race after that.”

Although Fleet Indian's fairy tale season ended on a sour note, Saylor prefers to focus on the positives of the year. While proud of her front-running victories in the Personal Ensign and the Delaware (gr. II), Sixty Sails (gr. III), Next Move (gr. III), and Obeah Handicaps, which she won by a combined 31 lengths, Saylor mentioned his favorite race was Fleet Indian's closest—the Beldame, which she won by a head.

INCLUDE HAS THREE QUALITY WINNERS ON THE SAME DAY!

Already a top 5 freshman sire and the sire of three stakes winners including the G1 winning standout Cash Included, Include had another monsterous day today, siring three winners of quality races.  The day started when Graham Motion's In For A Dime became her sire's 14th winner with a going away victory over the Aqueduct turf, winning a mile $44,000 Msw.  On that same Aqueduct card, Include's Megan's World took a $41,000 allowance race as she rewarded the bettors who had made her the race favorite.  Later in the evening, Include's Acrosstheborder came from off the pace to win a Msw at Delta Downs, becoming the 15th winner for Include.  With earnings of over $815,000 this year, Include has cemented a place in the freshman top 5 and gives every indication that he is just getting started!

Emerging star Runway Rosie was stretching out for the first time and making her stakes debut after a solid win on the turf at Santa Anita last time out.

The pretty grey filly was held under a tight rein just off the early leaders through a slow half, she angled through a tight gap leaving the final turn and rallied between horses to take the lead midstretch and drew off for a 1/2 length victory.

Runway Rosie joins Grade 1 stakes horses Cash Included and She's Included for this exciting freshman sire.  So far training plans for Runway Rosie and She's Included are pointing towards the December 17th Grade 1 Hollywood Starlet Stakes.

Breeders' Cup re-cap

INCLUDE's two Grade 1 juvenile fillies ran 5th and 6th respectively in the Breeder's Cup Juvenile Fillies with game efforts from both in a super tough field of 14 of the best fillies from around the world.

INDIAN CHARLIE's super race mare FLEET INDIAN suffered a condylar fracture during the Breeders' Cup Distaff and was pulled up.

LAVA MAN's seven race win streak came to an end yesterday with a 7th place finish in the Breeders' Cup Classic, Lava Man stalked close to the leaders three wide through the mile then tired in the stretch.

It's been a great racing year for both FLEET INDIAN and LAVA MAN and no doubt they will both be considered for divisional honors in the Eclipse Awards.

INCLUDE'S REMARKABLE FIRST CROP CONTINUES TO SHINE: CASH INCLUDED TAKES THE G1 OAK LEAF!

Grade 1 Oak Leaf Stakes.
1 1/16 miles, 2 YO Fillies, Oak Tree at Santa Anita

While the pre-race buzz was focused on Bob Baffert's Grade 1 winning Point Ashley, the post race accolades belonged to Cash Included, the dominating winner of Santa Anita's Grade 1 Oak Leaf S.  Carrying equal weight, Cash Included and Point Ashley had run away from the rest of the top class Grade 1 field by the top of the stretch, but as Point Ashley labored home, Cash Included widened her advantage with every step, winning in the end by a geared down 4 3/4 lengths.  It was a breakthrough performance for the daughter of Include, who had been purchased privately by J. Paul Reddam after breaking her maiden impressively in her previous start at Del Mar.  Well prepared by previous trainer Howard Zucker and new conditioner Craig Dollase, Cash Included has stamped herself as arguably the favorite for the upcoming G1 Breeder's Cup Juvenile Fillies at Churchill Downs.  Her victory also cemented her sire Include as a truly elite first crop sire, as she represents her sire's second Grade 1 filly as well as his second stakes winner while putting his juvenile earnings over the $500,000 mark.  This is truly remarkable for a stallion who's offspring were anticipated to peak around two turns and give every indication that they will only improve with age and added distance...truly, Include has the brightest of futures!

An Airdrie Stud homebred, Airdire would like to congratulate Cash Included's yearling purchaser Wavecrest, 2 y o purchaser and former trainer Howard Zucker, owner J. Paul Reddam, trainer Craig Dollase and winning jockey Corey Nakatani!

Wire-to-Wire winner for INCLUDE at Belmont

9/24/06  - Belmont Park
5 1/2 furlongs, $41,000 Maiden Special Weight

Trainer Timoty Ritvo always knew he had a special filly on his hands.  Megan's World was purchased by Murray Smith for $100,000 as a yearling at Saratoga last August and she showed promise from the start, barely missing in two previous tries at Saratoga in July and August.

Sent off here as the favorite, Megan's World broke on top from the 2nd post and kept a head in front as she travelled easily on the rail, jockey Cornelio Velasquez roused her leaving the turn and she quickly opened up 7 lengths on the field and kept nicely to her task to be home by 5 1/2 at the wire.

Keep an eye on this filly!
