Undefeated and bred for greatness, Itajara was by the highly-successful South American sire Felicio, out of Brazilian Oaks winner Apple Honey. He won his first start by 17 lengths, scored in four consecutive Grade 1 events and easily took the Quadruple Crown, establishing himself as the best race horse of all time in South America. As is evident in Siphon, Itajara demonstrated extraordinary stamina, class and blazing speed. He died prematurely after only four years at stud but in that limited opportunity was still represented by 10 stakes winners.
