Airdrie Stallions sparkle at Saratoga on Whitney day

Airdrie stallions enjoyed a banner Whitney S. day at Saratoga. The opening race, a contentious two-year-old Maiden Special Weight, in which several highly-touted prospects were unveiled, was won in devastating fashion by Upstart's debutant, Reinvestment Risk. Stalking the pace from fourth position on the rail, he powered through inside the leader at the quarter pole and opened up under Irad Ortiz to win by 7 3/4 lengths in an eye-catching 1:09 4/5. Bred by Dana Aschinger, and her late husband, Gerry, he was purchased by Mike Ryan for $280,000 at the OBS March Sale. He is trained by Chad Brown for Klaravich Stables. He had previously been purchased from his breeders by Nick deMeric for $140,000 at the Fasig Tipton July Yearling Sale in 2019.

The second half of the early double was won by King Cause, a son of Creative Cause who is trained by Tom Amoss for Nice Guys Stables. Bred by Bret Jones out of the multiple stakes producer Street Mate, King Cause is a half-brother to Bell's The One (G2), and a full-brother to stakes-placed Running Mate (SP). The victory, his fourth, brought his earnings to almost $190,000.

Summer Front was not to be outdone, as his two-year-old son, Shawdyshawdyshawdy, made a professional debut appearance to win the card's 1 mile and 1/16th Maiden Special Weight on the turf. Rated in mid-pack, he waited for room briefly at the head of the stretch, then burst through an opening between rivals displaying an impressive turn of foot before battling the favourite to the line, prevailing by a half-length. A homebred for Larry Goichman - whose My Sassy Sarah, a 3yo daughter of Summer Front, won an Allowance at Saratoga two weeks ago - Shawdyshawdyshawdy looks an exciting prospect for Mr. Goichman and Jorge Abreu.

In the nightcap, Cairo Prince enjoyed the limelight with a first Stakes success for his striking 4yo daughter, Cariba. Bred by Brereton C. Jones and purchased by Everett Dobson's Cheyenne Stable at the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, Cariba built on an impressive Belmont Allowance victory last time out with a powerful win in the $200,000 Caress S. for the red-hot duo of Christophe Clement and Irad Ortiz.

We at Airdrie Stud would like to congratulate the breeders, owners, trainers and all of the connections of this exciting foursome. We appreciate your support and all of your hard work to get to this point.
