Buy Land and See takes $100K Awad S. in black type debut

Leading Second-Crop sire Cairo Prince had an excellent final Saturday of October, topped by the 2-year-old colt Buy Land and See’s win in the $100,000 Awad S. on the Belmont Park turf.

Along with Giza Goddess’ runner-up finish in the Autumn Miss S. (G3) at Santa Anita Park and Miss Firecracker breaking her maiden at Keeneland, Cairo Prince leads all Second-Crop sires by stakes winners (5) and stakes wins (8), and is third by winners, with 59, and progeny earnings of $3.78 million.

Buy Land and See came into the Awad off an 8 1/4-length maiden win on the turf at Parx. Breaking from post 8 on Saturday, he was kept out of traffic on the outside while several lengths from the front. After a half-mile in :46.89, he began to cut into the lead on the turn. Four-wide into the stretch, he battled gamely down the lane, putting away Don Juan Kitten then holding of Pixelate to win by a neck in 1:35.70 for the mile on the good turf.

“I’ve always thought a lot of this horse,” said trainer Steve Klesaris. “He’s really matured since he’s arrived in April. With each race, he just continues to train well, and showed me today he’s real. He’s going to Florida and in a couple weeks, we’ll map out where we want to go.”

Now 2-0-1 in three starts for owner/breeder Joe Imbesi, Buy Land and See has earned $110,800.
