Creative Cause’s Star of Night wins 8th straight in $175,000 WV Breeders’ Classic

Star of Night kept her 2021 record intact with a win in the $175,000 West Virginia Cavada Breeders’ Classic on Saturday night at Charles Town Races (WATCH RACE).

The 4-year-old daughter of Creative Cause has won five stakes during her current eight-race winning streak that dates back to June of 2020.

As is her habit, Star of Night broke rather tardy, but soon began to make up ground and was fifth, just two lengths from the front, at the mid-way point of the seven-furlong race. She moved up along side pacesetter Privately with a quarter-mile to run and seemed to toy with that foe in the stretch, winning deceptively easy by three-quarters of a length.

“I took her to the gate this week, so I thought she would break a little better than what she did,” winning trainer Jeff Runco said “I was a little surprised at how she came out of there, but once she settled into stride she was okay. She’s a really nice filly. I knew once she stayed clear of trouble down the backside she was going to be okay. She just did it mainly on her own.”

Virtually perfect in her career, Star of Night has won all four of her starts this year, eight straight races overall and now has 10 wins and a pair of second-place efforts and earnings of $319,781 from 12 career outings. She is owned by Eric Steinmann’s Huntertown Farm and was bred by his brother Heinz.

Star of Night is one of Creative Cause’s seven stakes horses in 2021.  A stalwart top-10 sire among his generation each year, Creative Cause has 36 stakes horses and more than $22.3 million in progeny earnings lifetime.
