A colt from the initial crop of runners from the Airdrie Stud-based one-time ‘TDN Rising Star’ Beau Liam (Liam’s Map) covered a quarter-mile in :20 1/5 during Saturday’s fifth and final breeze show ahead of next week’s OBS June 2-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age Sale. The Mar. 20 foal becomes the first horse to achieve that particular clocking since a pair accomplished the feat at last year’s OBS April Sale. One of those was Cash Call (McKinzie), recent winner of the GIII Summertime Oaks at Santa Anita.
Hip 829 was bred in Kentucky by La Ciega LLC and fetched $12,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton October Sale before changing hands for $3,000 during the Fasig-Tipton December Digital Sale. The bay is consigned to the June Sale by Omar Ramirez Bloodstock, agent, who also sent out a Cloud Computing filly to breeze a co-fastest quarter-mile in :20 4/5 during Wednesday’s breeze show.
“I told Jimbo Gladwell [of Top Line Sales] this morning ‘I’ve got a good one coming out’”, Ramirez laughed. “I was expecting 20 and 3, 20 and 4 and if I was really lucky, 20 and 2. But 20 and 1, that’s amazing. He’s just a great colt. I knew the work was going to be good. I knew he was going to be the bullet, whatever the bullet was today.
“One of my riders told me to send this horse a quarter because he keeps going, he’s not going to stop. He’s ready to run.”
Ramirez brings a 28-strong consignment into next week’s sale and is bullish on his horses’ chances over the course of the two-day auction.
“This colt is just a special horse. He does everything naturally,” said Ramirez. “He just goes over there and does his thing. I’ve had a great under-tack show overall. All my babies responded well and have come back good and are looking good.”
A pair of juveniles shared the one-furlong bullet Saturday, each breezing :9 4/5.
Hip 754 (breeze video) is a May-foaled filly by the promising Yaupon (Uncle Mo) that is part of the draft of Keiber Rengifo’s Golden Rock Thoroughbreds, agent. A daughter of the stakes-placed Shine Softly (Aldebaran), the bay is a half-sister to Busanda Stakes victress The Grass Is Blue (Broken Vow) and her second dam, Eclipse Award winner Soaring Softly (Kris S.), produced six winners, including GSW Manitoulin (Awesome Again).
Leinster is off to a fast start with his first runners, including the Royal Ascot-bound Lennilu, and the stallion’s hip 831 (breeze video) was the other bullet worker going an eighth of a mile on Saturday. Steve Venosa’s S G V Thoroughbreds consigns the Florida-bred daughter of Sweetsweetsweet (Concord Point), a half-sister to 2-year-old stakes winner Concealedwithakiss (Political Force).
The OBS June Sale takes place next Tuesday and Wednesday, June 17 and 18 in Central Florida. For the full catalogue and under-tack results, visit www.obssales.com.
