Airdrie Stud’s freshman sire Majesticperfection was represented by his first winner Sunday when his 2-year-old colt It’s Free captured a $48,000 Maiden Special Weight heat at Gulfstream Park.
The dark bay colt, which also represents the first starter for the Grade 1 winner and brilliant sprinter by the late Harlan’s Holiday, made a professional rally up the rail to prove best in the 4 ½-furlong race. The final time was 53.30.
Bred in Florida by Rick Sutherland, It’s Free is the first foal out of the Grand Slam mare Princess Quinn, and his second dam is graded stakes winner Gold Princess. He earned $27,650 for the win for owner Reynaldo Perez and trainer Roderick Rodriguez.
Majesticperfection scored his biggest career victory in the Vanderbilt Handicap (G1) at Saratoga – beating 2010 Champion Sprinter Big Drama and earning a 115 Beyer Speed Figure. He established a new track record for six furlongs winning a stakes race at Prairie Meadows in 1:07 1/5 and earning a 117 Beyer Speed Figure. He’s currently standing the 2014 breeding season at Airdrie for a fee of $10,000 stands and nurses.
