Travers Day at Saratoga has long been a day where many of racing’s best and brightest come together to showcase their abilities.  This year’s Travers day was no exception, but unlike in most years, it may have been a debuting 2-year-old that left the greatest impression on the Sartoga faithful.  Todd Pletcher’s 2-year-old Indian Charlie colt Uncle Mo had been one of the backstretch’s worst kept secrets leading up to his debut, and left the starting gate in a salty Saratoga Maiden Special Weight as the prohibitive 4-5 favorite.  However, that price quickly revealed itself a bargain when Uncle Mo streaked home a 14 length winner, stopping the clock in a sensational 1:09 2/5 for the 6 furlongs, a time that would prove faster than the G3 Victory Ride Stakes on the same card at the same distance, and would earn Uncle Mo a 102 Beyer Speed Figure- an unbelievable 9 Beyer points higher than Discreetly Mine earned for his impressive G1 King’s Bishop score the same day.  An obviously impressed Todd Pletcher stated that Uncle Mo would make his next start in the GI Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park.

A product of his best book of mares to hit the track to date, Uncle Mo joins Indian Charlie’s undefeated stakes winner Roxy Gap as two of the most exciting 2-year-olds in the country and offers a preview of the big years ahead for Indian Charlie- whose truly best books at stud have yet to hit the racetrack.       THINK ABOUT IT!
