Already a winner of a maiden 3 1/2 furlong race on July 5th, Alta Aire improved her record to 2 wins in 2 starts on August 30th. She easily won the Bird of Pay Stakes, earning an additional $31,500 for her connections.
The dark bay filly, out of an Afleet mare, stalked the pace, gained on the backstretch, launched her bid at the 1/4 pole, then drew clear to win by 4 1/2 lengths. Her previous win was by a margin of 3 1/4 lengths.
