The Essex Handicap, an important prep for the GII Oaklawn Handicap, turned into an Airdrie Stallion showcase when Include’s talented colt Prom Shoes bested Yankee Gentleman’s multiple stakes winner Golden Yank, who overcame a troubled start to run an impressive second. Making a sweeping move into the turn, Prom Shoes looked a winner before the horses even entered the stretch, and finished impressively in earning a 98 Beyer speed figure. Both colts appear to be major players in this year’s older male division and could very well be headed for a rematch in the historic Oaklawn Handicap.
