PROUD CITIZEN 2YR OLDS SHINE IN ENGLAND.

Newmarket, July 12th – Group 2 July Stakes.

Impressive performances from the best 2YO colts in England made for a thrilling finish as Winker Watson (Piccolo) got up right on the line to pip River Proud (Proud Citizen) at the wire, the pair finishing a length and a half clear of Swiss Franc (Mr. Greeley).  Paul Cole’s River Proud struck the front inside the final furlong and looked to have the race in hand but was denied by Winker Watson who came from a long way back to get up by a short head on the line.  Paul Cole said “River Proud has run a hell of a race.  The winner looks a speed horse where ours is more of a stayer.  Six furlongs is a bare minimum for him and he will stay further.  He’s a really good horse and I will step him up in trip next time, although we are not making any plans as he will have a bit of a break first.”

Newmarket, July 11th – Group 2 Cherry Hinton S.

A fillies race with solid form no doubt sporting some future Group 1 heroines let by You’resothrilling (Storm Cat). The third choice Francesca D’Gorgio (Proud Citizen) raced alone in front, the overall leader, and was still only just reeled in at the wire in a four-way photo to seperate all those involved in a tight finish. She remains progressive with this encouraging run.
