RIVER PROUD wins Newmarket’s Group 3 Somerville Tattersall Stakes. An upbeat Paul Cole was confident in his colt’s ability to bounce back here and River Proud ran a professional race to win going away from a strong field, besting Godolphin favorite Iguazu Falls. River Proud was already Graded stakes placed after an impressive 2nd in the Group 2 July Stakes also at Newmarket.
River Proud is Proud Citizen’s 2nd graded stakes winner after Proud Spell dazzled with an easy 4 1/4 length win in Belmont’s Grade 2 Matron Stakes. Proud Spell is now pointed towards the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile fillies.
