Thanksgiving Day Storm: New Stakes winner for Stormin Fever

$60,000 Thanksgiving Stakes
Fair Grounds 6f

Although Stormin Baghdad has always been viewed as a talented colt, he has truly come into his own since joining the barn of top class conditioner Steve Asmussen.  Beaten just a length in the GIII Kentucky Cup Sprint in his first start for his new barn, Stormin Baghdad has won his last two starts like a colt with a big future.  On Thansgiving day at the Fair Grounds, Stormin Baghdad cut out suicidal fractions of 44 4/5 and 56 3/5 and still had enough in the tank to repel a top group of stakes horses in finishing the 6 furlongs in 1:09 and change.  The effort was good for a 99 Beyer Speed figure, and stamped Stormin Baghdad as a top older sprinting prospect for next season.
Perrenially among the leading general and juvenile sires, Stormin Fever has enjoyed another successful year in 2007 with six stakes winners, 12 stakes horses and over $3.6 million in earnings.  With a career yearling average of nearly seven times his stud fee, he continues to be one of the best values in the stud book!
