THE DERBY SIRE: 1 YEAR…4 DERBY WINS FOR STALLION YANKEE GENTLEMAN

$150,000 Zia Park Derby
Zia Park  1 1/16m

Golden Yank, fresh off an easy win in the $350,000 Oklahoma Derby, was made the 1-2 choice to add another derby win to his resume when he lined up for Saturday’s $150,000 Zia Park Derby.  Confidently handled throughout by jockey Jamie Theriot, Golden Yank collared the leaders at the head of the stretch and drew off to an effortless 6 3/4 length win.  Adding to Yankee Gentleman’s big day was Numismatist, who rallied to be third behind his paternal half-brother.  The win marked the 4th Derby win for a son of Yankee Gentleman this year, with Golden Yank’s two derby victories, Yankee Bravo’s California Derby and So So’s West Virgina Sprint Derby.  A top-10 Second Crop sire and ranked ahead of such succesfull stallions as Empire Maker, Mineshaft and Posse, Yankee Gentleman continues to represent one of the best values at stud.

Congratulations to owner/breeder Millard R. Seldin, jockey Jamie Theriot and trainer Gary Thomas!
