Upstart colt named TDN Rising Star after sparkling Saratoga debut

Reinvestment Risk rolled through the Saratoga stretch en route to a 7 3/4-length maiden special weight win on Saturday afternoon to become Upstart’s third winner and first TDN Rising Star.

The Airdrie Stud stallion is a top-five First-Crop sire by both winners and progeny earnings and is one of only four freshman sires with a black type-placed runner.

Reinvestment Risk was bumped at the start of Saturday’s six-furlong contest, forcing him in towards the rail. Tracking just behind the leaders, he found an opening just before coming into the stretch, and burst through boldly to take the lead. He swiftly pulled clear of the field and came home the easiest of winners in a very quick 1:09.95 on the fast main track.

Bred by in Kentucky by Aschinger Bloodstock Holdings LLC, Reinvestment Risk is the second foal out of the Candy Ride mare Ridingwiththedevil. The bay colt sold for $280,000 at this year’s OBS March 2-year-olds sale and is owned by Klaravich Stables.
