Upstart’s first Saratoga yearling brings a stellar $510,000

A colt from the first crop of multiple graded stakes winner Upstart brought an outstanding figure of $510,000 during Monday’s session of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Yearling Sale.

The winning bid, by Team Casse, was the top price paid for a colt by a freshman sire at the opening day of the Aug. 5-6 auction in upstate New York.

Consigned by Gainesway, agent and catalogued as hip No. 36, the dark bay juvenile is out of the stakes-placed mare Joyous Music.

Prior to Monday’s sale, Upstart had already had excellent results at the Fasig-Tipton July Sale in Kentucky, with his yearlings averaging more than 13 times his stud fee.
